Pushing through the market square/So many mothmans sighing/News had just come over/It's been five years of cryptid sightings 👽
You read that right: as of today (well. Yesterday, but who's counting) we have officially hit the five year mark of Lesser Known Cryptids! 5/28/2019 was the day we posted our very first cryptid, a photo of Johnny Cash in ridiculously tall boots; shortly after this of course we decided we would steer away from reposts and exclusively post original content. There are a million content mill gimmick accounts out there, we've never been interested in being one of them!
Since that time, and with your help, we've shared an original cryptid photo nearly every day since, with the exception of Sundays and a few brief breaks. By my math, that means we've together catalogued over 1500 cryptids and counting! (And I think the number is closer to 1600) I could write something really long-winded and schmaltzy, but what it all boils down to is: five years is an insane amount of time to devote to this goofy project, which I only expected to last for a month tops. And it's all your fault.
For real though: we don't have millions of followers and never will (remember that thing I said about not being a content mill? Well turns out that's the social media engagement equivalent of tying a brick to your foot and stepping off a bridge). But those of you who are here, who this account has somehow resonated with, I value and cherish each and every one of you dearly. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for finding enjoyment in the weird ways I decide to spend my time.
Now all that said, if you've been here a while you know what's coming: each year for LKC's anniversary, we reach out to some incredible artists to ask for their renditions of some of the cryptids we've shared over the past year. And no one's said no yet, so we've done it again!! So with no further ado: I invite you once more to enjoy a gallery of cryptid art from a group of artists of monumental skill and infinite grace! YO DJ TURN THAT BEAT UP 💿👽🚨
