The Murder of Deirdre Mayfair
Here be spoilers!! (AMC version only)
Immediately after Rowan checks into the Pontchartrain Hotel, a just-awakened Deirdre wanders over to Cortland’s home and calls on Lasher to locate Rowan. Cortland then offers his driver to take them both to the hotel.
While in transit (assume less than 30 minutes) and with Deirdre next to him, Cortland asks for Albrecht’s help, hires Suspect, and all four (Cortland, Deirdre, Albrecht and Suspect) arrive at the hotel. Cortland scoots ahead to the Security Office, pausing the cameras so that Albrecht can get to Rowan’s floor undocumented.
Suspect enters the elevator with Deirdre and waits until the elevator door opens to use a “garrote” to kill her. Albrecht (already on Rowan’s floor) surgically removes images of himself and Cortland from Suspect’s memory, removes the image of Suspect and himself from Rowan’s memory, removes the psychic memory of the entire event from the elevator, and presses the Lobby button sending Rowan and Deirdre down for all the world to see. Cortland resumes/deletes the security footage. Albrecht removes the memory of Cortland and himself from the security guard in the office and slips away.
A “perfect” murder thrown together in less than an hour. It’s a good thing Rowan, Albrecht, and Suspect just happened to be in town that morning. How convenient!
