Need to Stop

I need to stop writing about love and heartbreak and... you

I need to stop dwelling on these thoughts

I’m consumed by dreams of you returning

of us somehow working

I need to stop hoping that things will return to what they once were

My hope is robbing me of my life

So much time wasted on you

when I don’t even know that you feel the same

when I know that you have moved on and things have changed

I need to stop loving you as anything more than a friend

You inhabit my dreams most nights

I can’t get you out of my head

I keep hearing your voice when you aren’t speaking

I keep seeing your face when you aren’t there

I keep feeling your knee against mine 

and your hand on my shoulder

when you are a thousand miles away

I know it is unhealthy, but I can’t stop

I don’t know how to, but I know I need to

I keep meaning to post about NANO, and then life keeps getting away from me. I don’t always participate, but this year I’m using it as an excuse to get some writing done. I don’t typically struggle with word count (I overwrite in ALL the wrong places) but this year has been hectic and I’ve let my writing get away from me. It’s time to bring it back into focus.
