Jasper has never  and will never hate anyone in his life as much as he hates Whitney Frost.  It's made even worse by the fact that he knows that he hates her so much gives her power over him.   Who she was shaped who he is and he will never ever be comfortable with that fact.

Val scanned the room as she mixed and mingled.  Holding polite conversation while really doing something else was a skill she had had ingrained in her well before her spy training had started. 

She saw several face she expected, and one that was going to be a problem. Whether she were here for the same purpose as Val or for a different reason entirely, she could only complicate things. Val made her way over with a well practiced ease that her mother would have been proud of.
