A recently released FY17 budget blueprint calls for the elimination of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Phi Beta Kappa helped found NEH over 50 years ago and steadfastly supports its mission to serve and strengthen our nation by promoting excellence in the humanities and opening new worlds of learning for the American public.
In light of this concerning news, Phi Beta Kappa is joining with the National Humanities Alliance and others in the humanities community to rally Congressional support for the NEH. With budget deliberations set to begin soon, it is imperative that Congress understand the fundamental value of this critical agency.
What can you do?
Call or email your Senators and Member of Congress. The National Humanities Alliance makes this task easier. Click here to find talking points and information on how to make calls and send emails.
Encourage other members (and non-members) to call and email their elected officials. The more people who send messages to their elected officials, the more support for the NEH we will be able to demonstrate.
Schedule in-district and in-state meeting with your elected officials. As constituents, your opinions matter. If you have 15-30 minutes for a meeting, it will be worth the time to express your concerns in person.
Participate in the National Humanities Alliance advocacy day on Monday, March 13, 2017 in Washington, D.C. in person or on social media, using the hashtags #NEHMatters #SavetheNEH #HAD17
We agree @nehgov! ・・・ Federal investment in #NEH costs less than the price of a stamp per American per year. Its value? Priceless. Small investment, big impact. #NEHMatters #SavetheNEH 📖
