#nomakeupselfie #cancerawareness
Yet again we see people turning to Facebook and jump on a hype. But far from repetitive cat pictures and the testosterone-fuelled one-upmanship of NekNominations, the no make-up selfies trend has actually done some good. With NekNominations, the backlash was driven by reports of deaths surrounding the craze. The consensus seemed to be that people had never discovered alcohol before social media,…

In a world in which the baby boomers are living longer and longer, still refusing to relinquish power and generally fucking it up for the rest of us – in a world where health is such a valued commodity – the idea of young people risking their lives for little more than a few Facebook thumbs up and WorldStar comments is one that's as subversive as it is stupid. ... At the risk of stating the obvious, there are no jobs any more and no subcultures. Even the fucking Lib Dems are more than willing to screw the kids over these days. Why not just enrol on a Sports Science course in a cheap town, fail for as many years as you can to prolong your stay, take the loan and piss away your days snorting Creatine and drinking through your eyeball? The broadsheet writers who frame copies of London Calling above their desks probably won't like it, but NekNominations, the cinnamon challenge, et al really are the closest thing we have to punk in 2014. Society has created a dirty pint of neglect, debt, unemployment and substance abuse, and now it has to down it. In one.
Clive Martin, NEKNOMINATIONS ARE WHAT THIS GENERATION HAS INSTEAD OF PUNK OR RAVE [via Vice UK]
So everyone has been doing these NEKnominations, where I guess you show off your drinking skills or something and one of the teachers at my old school decided that it would be cooler and safer to do RAKnominations (random act of kindness). I've just watched two students in this years grad class go downtown (in my hometown) and go to three different groups of homeless people (between 2-5 person groups) and ask them if they needed anything, they then went and bought all of them a warm drink and meal AND bought them what they asked for. They bought Jackets and burgers for one couple, socks, shoes, and gloves for another group, and a sleeping bag for another guy. The girl that was in the video doing this even went out of her way to buy an extra sweater for on of the women living on the street, who didn't ask for it. This warms my heart, legitimately these kids who in normal circumstances would be freaking out about grad dresses and tuxedos were out sharing their kindness with the world and it just makes me smile. I wish my grad class had done this. This is a much better way to spend our time than showing off our "drinking skills" and putting our lives in danger.

Nominations
Recently, facebook has been spammed with nominations (aka neknominations) where people make each other drink a pint of beer on one go and then nominate three other's for next turn.
It has even reached me, the person who 1) hates beer with fiery passion 2) Does not support forcing alcohol drinking. Even though my friends knew I would not do whatever this stupid game said, I joined in - drinking Apple Juice.
I have also gotten comments that reached both sides of the coin; a lot of strong thumbs up from a part, and "so lame" from another.
To everyone and anyone on facebook that is nominated for this game; do not, under any circumstances, feel forced to drink alcohol because someone else challenged you to. It is never their choice, always your own. If you want to do it, and you are sure you should, fine. But never let anyone make you drink alcoholic beverages unless you agree on that.
Please people, be responsible. This is getting out of hand. A majority of my friends seems to think this is the coolest thing right now, and I just want it to stop. It makes even the best people crazy. Drink water, do good deeds, but never do anything you do not want to. And they can NEVER require you to buy them anything in return if you did not agree upon this.
Cheers, and stay safe!
I find this video funny. Underneath it there's a link to a neknomination of a guy that bites a baby chicken's head off and drinks it down...so disgusting...
