Welcome back to Writing Gems, where I share some of my favourite TMNT fanfics that I've read.
The next one I have to recommend is
🐢Underdark by Nekotsuki🐢
Where do I even start with this one? 💚
A gripping, absolutely beautifully written story of 03 Leo and Mikey working together to get home after a freak accident has them lost and injured deep below ground.
The author does a superb job with the action, pacing and characterisation. A must read for any 03 fans.
@plothooksinc greenlit sharing, so here we go! One typeset for No Rest For The Weary, because it is one of the best things I have ever read and I wanted to.
(The images are uploading to Tumblr with extra purple, for some reason????? It's more reddish in real life, I promise)
Google Drive Folder Here
It's currently imposed for 4-sheet signatures (4 papers folded together into a booklet), with 34 signatures total (flyleaf included). Total page count is 544 with the flyleaf; 539 without. Printing the imposed version will cost 136 sheets of letter-sized paper.
No Rest For The Weary.pdf is the regular exported PDF, no flyleaf, no imposition; just the pages. This is what you want if you plan on putting it through your own imposition software. This is also what you want if you are going to read it electronically as an eBook.
NoRestForTheWeary-files is the folder of signatures. The software I used this time did not produce an aggregate file, so you will need to print each signature individually. The bad news is this makes it much more of a hassle to print it through a commercial printer; if printing at home, you'll have to babysit the printer for... a while. But. Good news: it'll be easier to keep the signatures separate before they're folded.
This typeset is color heavy! That means two things. One: printing will be more expensive (sorry). Two: you will need to do some paper-experimenting, because that much ink will saturate normal copy/printer paper and it will show through the page (on an inkjet. I don't have a color laser to test it on). But also, thicker paper binds into a thicker book, and this one is Big. So. Do with that what you will.
Also! In your printer settings: flip along the short edge. If you flip on the long edge half your pages will end up upside down. Please also make sure the image/file is centered on the page. If it is not centered, the pages do not line up in the margins after folding, and then trimming the book block becomes a nightmare.
If you want to do your own imposition - like, if you want 8-sheet signatures instead of 4, or 1-sheet signatures for thermal/perfect binding - I used this software here. You will need Java installed on your computer to run it. It's going to download as a zip; you open the zip, pull up the .jar file to open the program, and then it creates a folder within the opened zip folder for the signature files. It will not do this if the opened zip folder is still in your downloads folder. I don't know why.
I have also used PDFsnake for perfect-bound signatures. You get one free imposition/download a day, but it works well.
I have also-also used this website for generating signatures. It does not currently work for folios (1-sheet signatures), and the last couple times I tried regular signatures it just... got stuck generating and never delivered the files. I suspect it's currently under construction from the dev team, but you're welcome to play around with it. Maybe it will work better for you than it did for me.
Uhhhh... I think that covers everything? Lemme know if something goes sideways or doesn't make sense and I'll fix it best I can.

Summary:
Chiaroscuro: a term which refers to the use of strong contrasts between light and dark in a painting. Leo and Mikey were lost to the dark in an explosion that took them all by surprise. Don and Raph will find them if it's the last thing they do.
A collection of scenes from the overlight.
(Alternately, we can call this Underdark 2: The Reckoning. Uh, I mean the Rescuing.)
Leonardo pulled himself up onto the railing and perched there, a lift of his eye ridges the only indication of his surprise at finding her watching him. After a moment, he inclined his head, voice level. “Karai.”
“Foolish,” she said coldly. “Your distraction is weak. I could have cut the cord and you would have fallen to your death.”
“Debatable.” He didn’t come closer. If his feet touched down on her balcony, she would kick him over the side again, robe be damned. But Leo stayed where he was, hunching forward against the gusts at this height, blue mask tails flicking violently where the rest of him was still. “I’m here to continue our conversation.”
