Weredog's no know the su fear
Randomly thinking about the nemetrix from Ben 10 Omniverse. And wondering if the nemetrix hadn't been made by Psychobos, if Azmith would have eventually made something similar. Since one of the stated inspirations for the omnitrix's creation was to keep a living backup system for all sapient species in the universe so that if a species were to die out, they could be revived with the omnitrix. So I wonder if Azmith, after making the completed omnitrix at the end of UAF, would have considered making an omnitrix equivalent for non-sapient species. So that different ecosystems can be protected and replenished if any species die out. Obviously being able to transform into them wouldn't be as useful for understanding as it doesn't seem possible, even with the omnitrix, for a sapient species to turn into a non-sapient species safely. But I'm sure it would still be useful for study even if a scientist can't directly turn into the animal.
A mix of your favs SW and B10, perhaps? Ben becoming a Star Wars race of your choice, or a Star Wars character wielding the Omnitrix?
OHHHH, Not to hijack an ask again but this reminded me of these doodles I did a while back that I forgot to post on tumblr (did these like literally a week or two before Star Wars overtook my Ben 10 hyperfixation completely).
Obviously we have Ben as a couple of Star Wars aliens at the top. Then my friend asked for Ben as a rancour, but then I remembered the whole sapient thing and wasn’t sure wether a rancour would be sapient enough to qualify as an omnitrix DNA sample so I switched out the omnitrix for the nemetrix instead.
So, question about the Nemetrix: I don't remember exactly how it works, but from what I do remember, it lets the user turn into a creature's natural predator. I don't know how it's so exact every time, especially since the dude making his dog transform isn't even touching the dang thing when he makes his dog change, but my question is, what does it turn into for humans? Cause, while every other thing in the nemetrix has an animal that specifically counters an alien's abilities, humans are kind of different because pretty much everything is our natural predator. So, does it just stick with whatever they are currently, or does it have to frantically choose between lions, bears, wolves, or pigs?
Also, just to add this: Considering humans and our weird want to keep dangerous animals in our homes, there are definitely aliens somewhere in the universe of Ben 10 who keep their natural predator as pets. Like, there's a Humungousaur with a pet Tyrannopede somewhere off-screen.
Adding aliens from other franchises into the Nemetrix
I've previously done posts making Omnitrix rosters with creatures outside of Ben 10, this time I decided to do the same with the Nemetrix
If you're unaware, the Nemetrix is an Omnitrix copy introduced in Omniverse, instead of turning the wielder into sentient alien species it turns them into much more animalistic ones (it is usually worn by pets of Khyber the huntsman, since its usage can drive the more sentient users insane), the species tend to be natural predators of creatures Ben can access.
I haven't done an Omnitrix roster in a while and I'll try to change that, but at least this is a bit easier, the Nemetrix doesn't really have rosters, I don't have to stick to any specific number
I can do 9 (chose the number due to the limited amount of images I can use on tumblr posts), and like with the previous posts, I am sticking to only one creature per franchise on a same post, this time I don't have to worry about making them sentient.
They won't necessarily be predators of any particular species, but this can still be fun.
1) Rognarr (Invincible)
These creatures come from a planet with a VERY dense gravity, they had to develop significant strength and durability to be able to just survive.
We first learn of these creatures from Nolan's books, which he published as fiction on Earth, but we're actually edited versions of personal experiences he took note of when considering potential threats to the viltrumites.
2) Space Dingo (DBZ Abridged)
A species inhabiting the planet of space Australia, we don't know many about the space dingos, excepting for them having eaten Jeice's sister.
3) Skullcrawlers (Monsterverse)
Even though an enemy of this species, Kong (whose parents the Skullcrawlers ate on the day he was born), is sentient enough to be capable of using sign language and tools, I haven't been given much reason to assume the same level of intelligence can be attributed to these hypervorous creatures from Skull Island (They are, however, somewhat intelligent, capable of recognizing traps, like the time a soldier was trying to sacrifice himself to save other people by pulling the pin on a grenade he was holding as a young Skullcrawler was headed towards him and the Skullcrawler was intuitive enough to see the trap, whacking him away with its tail right on time before the grenade exploded).
4) R.O.U.S. (Princess Bride)
Fuck you, I'm adding the Rodents of Unusual Size to this list and there's literally nothing you can do to stop me.
5) Cloverfield Monster (Cloverfield)
Opinions vary on this movie (btw, said it before and will say it again, fuck paramount), regardless, it is commonly agreed that this creature is fascinating, with the creature (affectionately known as Clover) being canonically a scared little baby who meant no harm and was just looking for his mom, he was, nonetheless, capable of surviving a nuke.
6) Alaskan Bull worm (SpongeBob)
Nuff said
7) Night Fury (How to train your dragon)
I've added Skyrim dragons to the Omnitrix lists, yes, but those were the kind of dragon that talks and is more sentient, HTTYD dragons are much more animalistic and driven by instinct.
Btw I'll repeat the statement of another post of mine on the topic of httyd, fuck the live action reboot, but fuck the people being racist about the casting more, never hurts to remember racism is for lame losers.
8) Fizzgig (The dark crystal)
Not the first time I use a creature from Jim Henson's fascinating fantasy world of Thra, fizzgigs are unique round creatures resembling dogs, usually with a behavior comparable to that of an angry chihuahua or pomeranian.
9) Sky Kanga (DC Comics)
I mean big kangaroos that can be used as mount and jump in such a way it might as way be flying.
UNITRIX 10K!
After years of working as an assistant under Azmuth, by the era of Ben 10K, Eunice has begun to branch out and work on her own projects, such as building a database of endangered species of fauna from across the galaxy. With a heavily retrofitted Nemetrix as a tool for collecting and cataloging DNA, using it with her own savestate of human DNA to transform halfway into any species it has saved in its active roster without any of the deleterious effects it would have on any other sentient user, she travels the universe looking for any species in need of preservation.
Like two or three years ago I saw a post on the Ben 10 subreddit asking about why Ben always transforms into the wrong alien when fighting Khyber and the Nemetrix and I commented that at some point they explained that the Nemetrix had a jammer in it that made the Omnitrix more likely to transform into a prey-alien. Someone asked for sauce and we both spend a good long while looking for it and could not find any source confirming it.
Somewhat recently I remembered where I saw that.
It was the comics. Which are technically not canon but it’s the best we got. So, if you’re wondering why Ben always transforms into Humungousaur against Tyrannopede and Heatblast against Crabdozer, this is why. Jammer signial coming from the Nemetrix
