I'm really getting tired of the RNG bossfights in Fantasian.
Just, so tired from them.
I've now upgraded my slutty hoop earrings of hope.
I need help picking my party in Fantasian: Neo Dimension
Leading Twink
White Mage First Girl
Battle Maiden Knight Summoner Princess
Salty Sea Brawler
Annoying Kid Tinkerer
Lone Wolf Pokemon Master
Robot Buddy
Dark Elf Waifu Scientist
Top three options will be in the party.
Okay, that story was so beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.
BUT MAYBE SOME GODDAMN WARNING ABOUT HOW LONG IT IS, SO I CAN SAVE THE GAME FIRST?
In theory, I could change my party, but I want the sisters to experience this together.
Alright, so, if you complete your robot buddy's quest, he gets a halo and learns to resurrect people. Which, sure.
Completed my Dark Elf waifu's quest. Curse in this game prevents you from healing, and prevents you from having any positive. So, the answer is to just - beat the shit out of him. Fuck you cockatrice.
TL;DR finally have my robot buddy and dark elf waifu upgraded to the point I can have them in the party! And you thought it was hard in RWBY to get the team back together again.
I also got Tan, whom is great, except his story is exposition dump, because of where you are when you finally get him.
Fantasian has an optional boss battle that is effectively an avatar of the void. It is an absolutely incredible cosmic horror story,
IF
I didn't fucking get trapped there.
The game helpfully tells you what the recommended level of areas and quests are. Which means, every part of the ship I travel to I helpfully get the warning that I'm too low for the area. It wasn't a problem until I got to the boss, who has a party wipe attack. Managed to have one character survive it by blocking the second time, but she would one-shit him, or anyone he used Phoenix Down Feathers on.
This is part of how the game tortures you. The celestial weapons are necessary to unlock the skill tree. While the celestial weapons in FFX would lock people out of the post-game if you didn't get them, the divine artifacts locks characters out of ACT II.
While my the one character that can learn resurrect, (first girl white mage, naturally), is locked out of the game, because I finally unlocked the epic quest to rescue her and was looking for missing robots.

Luckily I was smart enough to use a new save file, or I would have been royally fucked, maybe not able to recover the playthrough.
Later On, Fantasian: Neo Dimension renearally shows it's age.
It adds linear and curvilinear AoE, which is novel, fun, interesting. It means you have a controlled AoE, but often can't use it fully. It's partially up to the (seemingly) RNG.
The problem is that this mechanic is not enough to keep the game interesting through it's length, and boss battles will often be setup to not let you use it at all. Because it defiantly refuses to learn any lessons, and makes bosses immune to pretty much everything.
All of the characters are unique, to the point they normally only have two elements a piece. Other than the cheap Rikku knockoff that can Mix items.
Every status effect only lasts a few turns. This means they have to be reapplied every few turns, and if they aren't worth reapplying every few turns they are completely worthless. Status effects often have a low chance to Proc, which... makes them worthless. Some enemies benefit from status effects, and the cure abilities don't work on enemies, because?..
Your only multi-target heal uses potions, and most boss battles are designed to make you run out just before the end, so you have to go and buy 80 more.
Later on, it makes the mistake of thinking that longer battles are more challenging, when they are just more frustrating, and so even basic battles start taking longer, and longer, and longer.
It does have a skill tree, but it takes 20 hours to unlock it for one character. The skill tree uses SP, rather than auto-leveling. Later on, the game hobbles leveling, (passed level 35), and this would be a great chance to let characters still earn SP, but SP is earned by leveling. So far I've unlocked the skill tree for 2 characters.
The game follows the FFXIII policy of constantly shuffling your party, and while interesting at first, and while it makes for a compelling story, from an RPG point of you it's horribly frustrating, and seems designed to stop you from doing most things. This is because once you CAN do these things, you will realize how hollow the combat mechanics are.
None of this detracts form the absolutely amazing story, and is certainly not enough to hobble the game, but... seriously, they could have learned SOME lessons.
From their own fucking games. A number of weapons and armour have interesting traits, but the game follows the standard RPG weapons get stronger as you continue, and so the interesting traits don't last. Some of the traits are almost mandatory, and so you pretty much have to ignore the weapon and armour progression.
You can equip one gem, which applies one passive trait. You can increase the slots in your skill tree, but a couple, with the second one locked behind a plot wall.
So, you can't change your party into around 20 hours in. You can equip one weapon, one armour, and one gem. Most of the gems are elemental resistance types, and most of the weapons and armour are linear progression of their basic stats. So, the game has to forcibly change your party every couple of hours, to prevent you from getting tired of the lack of development.
This said, all of the characters are fantastic.
