Art of Fighting 3 The Path of The Warrior - Console Fighting Games of 1996
Art of Fighting 3: The Path of the Warrior is the final entry in SNK’s Art of Fighting series, released in 1996 for arcades and later ported to Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD, and a wide range of modern platforms. The game shifts the spotlight from Ryo Sakazaki to Robert Garcia, who travels to Mexico in search of his childhood friend Freia Lawrence after receiving a mysterious plea for help. His unauthorized departure prompts the Garcia Foundation to send Karman Cole after him, while other factions pursue Freia for their own reasons, giving the story a more personal, character‑driven tone.
The game features ten playable fighters, each with distinct martial‑arts styles, and introduces a new, more fluid fighting system built around joystick‑plus‑button combinations. Known for its high‑detail animation and anime‑influenced art, it stands apart from earlier entries with its smoother movement and grounded combat feel. Though not as commercially dominant as SNK’s other fighters, it maintains a strong cult following
