Brew #156: Brewdog Neon Overlord Chilli Mango IPA

ABV: 7.3%

Served: From the fridge

Aroma: Tropical fruit, citrus, honey

Pour: Clear gold with a disappearing white froth

Taste: Sweet mango fruit burst very quickly overrun by heat and spice and then a huge wash of chilli on the tongue and throat. There’s fucking chilli everywhere! The spice! It takes over everything setting lips tingling and all. Repeated sups gives more honey sweetness after a while but oh lord the heat and the burn are something else. It’s liquid vindaloo, don’t know if it’s geniuis or insane to be honest. The can art is a warning with its red viking cum mexican day of the dead skeleton.

Luminous pinks and yellows on dark as death black. Kind of a voodoo skeleton vibe? Maybe a Mexico death parade kinda fella. He's an alien though? Is he? With a horned helmet. Is that an illuminati pyramid on his forehead? The feckers are everywhere! I pour. Nice pale straw colour with a foamy top. Jolly! I sniff. Yep. Pure mango on the nose. Fruity! I sip. Mmmm fruity again. Typical tropical. Whoa! The chilli! The feckin chilli! It's so spicy! Ah! Jesus! I sip again to calm the chilli. No wait! The chilli is in the beer! Ah what am I doing! Why! This is a mind bender! Usually ya quench the chilli with a beer or a lassi or milk. I need bread I think. I found pretzels. They're helping. There's no way out? It's 7.3% too! What have I done? I keep going to the beer for comfort. Wrong again! Stop! Stop! Neon overlord you bastard! You have conquered! I have a headache? Ah Jesus this is a disaster. I'm in after a days work and now this! I mean it's a good beer. Great fruitiness and hopiness but the chilli just kinda takes the piss out of ya? Who needs this? Who wants it? It's daft really. Well I've tried it. I won't drink a chilli beer again. It's good but it's not for me. Is it good though? Is it? I can't rate this out of 10. I've no idea. I've just ordered a takeaway pizza. I always go with chilli but because of this I've changed it up. I'm so out of sorts right now. It's a weird headache too? Like I'm only half way through this?
