Taking Care of Your Familiars and Spiritual Guides (Part 1)

Wow, We’ve made it far! In fact soon enough we will be learning about Summoning or ‘Calling’ the Familiars and Spiritual Guides. Before we can do that though, we need to know the first thing about taking care of them. You’re thinking that I’m nuts, well its true they do need to be taken care of. So Lets not Procrastinate and jump right on in!

Familiars

So I hope this is obvious, But these guys need EXTRA love. Why though? Well They’re in the Psychical plan, They need food, water, love, and anything else you need to keep a healthy animal. So this means EVERYTHING of an animal from food to vet bills, plus you need to protect your familiar.

Spiritual Guides

Now these are a little more tricky, because they’re not on the same plane as we are. We only connect through meditation. And miss treating them may cause them to leave - or disconnect from you. From time to time your Guides may also need a break, or you may need a break from them. This is okay, they’re not able to be there all the time they need to rest. Remember they’re like friends, just because you’re not always together does not mean anything about your connection or bond. 

Basic Protection and Care

Your Familiars and Spiritual Guides need from time to time some one on one love. I don’t mean using them for magick I mean basic care - just like a friend. I have found a wonderful post with Ideas of another creator @sigil-seer. His post on “Quiet ways to interact with a Spirit Companion” Has some wonderful Ideas in it And would Highly recommend giving they have a wonderful Blog space and they post about a wide variety of topics. They have everything from Magick to Meme’s. Personally I’m a fan of the page. 

Anyway  were off topic lets get back to it! It’s simple really treat them like a friend, AS WELL as a partner in your magickal workings. They’re not Magickal slaves, they’re (As I see it) equals. Not less or more, don’t forget it. 

Mistreating your familiar is extremely bad - NEVER EVER mistreat an animal, never mind a familiar. It’s just wrong that should be pretty obvious. Now “What if you mistreat or neglect a Spiritual Guide? How bad could it be?” you may be asking. While Familiars take up space on the same plane as us Spiritual Guides do not. So whats the big deal? Well with Guides you have to work very hard bonding with them - and if you mistreat them they may just leave. They’re not stuck with you and can leave. Some witches even believe they will come back and push negative energy towards you which is also not ideal.

Animal Symbolic meanings, and why they’re important

Welcome to our Sunday post; so lets ask some important questions. Why are animals connected to Symbolic meanings? What are the meanings of specific animals? Why should we know the animals meaning? BOOM, easy enough lets just get to work! 

Why are Animals connected to specific meanings?

We connect animals to meanings because it’s believed that some animals are more helpful with achieving certain things versus other animals. For example, my two Spiritual Guides are; Jinx, a Hedgehog (Whom symbolizes protection), and Charm, a Porcupine (She symbolizes Humility and  Empathy). 

So why does this matter? Well one of the tasks I tend to assign my guides is to watch over my significant other - as I tend to worry about them. Now which do I send? Technically I can send both, or whichever I want. My personal choice is to send Charm, as she is responsible for my care for others and I trust that shes right for the job. Why not send Jinx, well sometimes I do but to me Jinx is more of a personal protector. He exist’s to keep me safe, and that where his skills shine.

Why should we know the meanings of animals?

I just answered that for the most part. It allows you to find their strengths and find out ‘Why’ they’ve called to you. Jinx and Charm came during a vulnerable part of my life and made it clear that they’re here to help me - Each on helps me with aspects that I wanted to learn to handle, control, and change. 

Then what do these animals mean?

Now for the actual point of the post. What do they mean? Well I’m going to link one of the many websites I use. They’re really useful and I recommend them. I’m going to cut this post short so you can read up on the web page.

Where you may have seen a Familiar or Spiritual Guide

Congratulations! We have learned so much in the past few days, but there is no time to slow down. We MUST keep going, we have so much farther to go! So today’s topic is a relatively short one, but it may clear up some strange instances in your life. 

Do you think you’ve ever seen a Familiar?  Have you ever felt the presence of your Spiritual Guide? We learned a bit yesterday about sensing them think about it. Take a minute and think about it. 

Not everyone has felt a Guide or met a familiar - they tend to make themselves known when you need them most. For example many witches realize while practicing their magick, that their pets have an affinity to Magickal rituals or spells. This may be a good indicator! Some witches claim, (Unfortunately I’m yet to experience it) that they will walk through a forest or encounter some wildlife, and just feel a specific animal calling to you. Maybe you will Cross paths! Please while in the forest take the proper safety steps necessary - and always tell someone where you’re going.

(That could be EITHER however. This could be a Spiritual Guide coming fourth OR a familiar -Trust you gut!)

Now on to Spiritual Guides, this is my area of expertise, as I do not currently work with a Familiar. As mentioned earlier this week I do work with to Spiritual Guides, Jinx and Charm. (They’re Lovely) Have you ever felt something, or sensed like something was helping you? This could be them, most of the time you just know.

How to sense your Magickal Friends!

Welcome back! Now that we know a little about these guys, we should learn how to tell us if they’re even here. So in today’s lesson we’re going to focus on Spiritual Guides - as I am most experienced with them - but we still will talk about Familiars, so do not worry.

Before we jump in, I should note that by no means - and I mean NO means - am i the only source you should use. I encourage people to challenge not only me but yourself. Its important in studying Wicca/Neo-Paganism, or even just general witchcraft to ALWAYS learn the most you can. As we learned yesterday I can be wrong. People are also trained in different ways and as such have different beliefs. So please go fourth and learn the most you can! Let’s Begin! 

So what will we cover today? I’m hoping to get through some big things! First off we need to define sense. So what do i mean by this? When i say sensing I can only speak to my personal experiences. 

Before I can begin to sense energy's I must be grounded. I do basic meditation exercise (of your personal preference). stay relaxed, I also like to carry some charged obsidian with me to ground myself. Then I close my eyes and take in a deep breath (Standing or sitting). I picture in my head a shell around my body - just a couple inches away from the surface of my body. Then I like to picture some yarn or string in my center (Typically in my chest), this string begins to stretch around me, it pulls between different energy's if there is something that i feel the string just keeps pulling me towards . That is typically where one of my Spiritual Guides, may be. 

One other use of sensing energy I use is a lot simpler to do, however takes a bit of practice to really get down. This one is a method that I use - and have not read anywhere about it, and is my own method. Its quite different compared to traditional methods. So here’s how it works. Its super difficult to describe so my apology in advance. So start by grounding yourself. Now I only do this when i feel an energy is present already. What do I feel? well it feels like that static feeling you get when your arm goes numb, but its not inside my body. Its like the numbness is just on the outside of my body. I know weird right? This ‘static’ does not only exist on the outside of my hands in fact, i feel it as well in my gut i feel like part of the space around me (never have i felt it more than five feet away). It feels like something around me is calling me and is pulling its energy toward me.

So how do i know that this my Spiritual Guide? Well that’s going to get covered better later - however for a quick simple explanation; I feel their personality and their spirit among me. In my post (Coming December 10th, 2018) “Summoning your Spiritual Guide”, we will talk a lot about them.
