not arguing with most of the points here, but they frequently mention in the show that jake is the FIRST american dragon (at least as far as council-assigned guardian dragons go since native americans have dragons of their own it seems fair to assume theyd also have guardian dragons). jake's cousin (from florida) was also training to be an american dragon, which implies that theres multiple dragon guardians in at least some countries, but the dragon summit ep in s1 definitely made it seem like theres only one in each so thats just confusing of them
anyway i think itd be interesting if there were certain dragon cultures that werent a part of the Dragon Council or they had their own councils or w/e, itd be some fun conflict and explain a lot of the "how can one dragon handle so much" since jake really does just handle new york
idk how but I totally missed whenever they specified “first” b/c I rly don’t remember that. it may be b/c the dragon council feels so long-established that it seems unthinkable to me that there wasn’t some kinda American-region guardian dragon before that point... either way, that’s my bad, thank you for the clarification
but that only makes this MORE confusing. I honestly just assumed that Native Americans made up the bulk of American Dragons before Jake (at least on a headcanon basis, since no American Dragons were ever named or described canonically). but if a council-assigned American Dragon didn’t even exist before Jake, well... that’s certainly suspicious. it would be rly interesting to explore dragon societies apart from the council, and I’d LIKE to think that the creators wouldn’t just forget that Native American cultures exist and have dragons of their own...... but the show so heavily establishes the council as the end-all be-all of dragons, I rly think that’s putting too much faith into this show’s already shaky worldbuilding...
also wasn’t Jake’s cousin just doing general dragon training? I was under the impression that all dragons just *do* dragon training whether they’re set to be a guardian or not, just so they can get a handle on their powers? like isn’t that the deal w/ Haley’s training too?
