I know it's been said a million times and I'm not adding anything new to the conversation here but I'm just so fucking tired of neopuritanism, whether it's openly conservative or wearing a fauxgressive hat; I don't care anymore. It's all regressive and reactionary. I cannot stand feeling like I'm being gradually shoved back into evangelical Christian sex negative shame and guilt and self-loathing, and my tolerance and understanding for people perpetuating that with "good" intentions has worn extremely thin. I left that shit behind in my 20s and have worked really fucking hard--and still am working!--to put it behind me and leave it there.
It's time to retire the "yeah, sex is cool, but" meme.
I'm not going to bother asking why there's no "yeah, video games are cool, but" meme, or "yeah, hiking is cool, but" meme, or " yeah space travel is cool, but" meme because we all know exactly goddamn why.
We all know the people using this meme don't actually think sex is cool, otherwise they wouldn't be using a meme to passive-aggressively shoehorn faux-casual sex negativity into absolutely every random unrelated topic of conversation.
Conservatives spent the past decade systematically purging sex related discussions and content from every major internet problem, destroying free speech and privacy protections countless artists' livelihoods and countless sex workers' lives in the process. and .
We're now imprisoned together in this new digital panopticon, constantly subject to rampant censorship and queerphobia.
Anyone who still thinks it's funny to make snide meme jokes implying that people who like sex ought to find better, "purer" things to focus their attention on needs to surgically extract their tongue from the boot, take a look around themselves, and read the fucking room.
Maybe this is a dumb epiphany but you know that old Internet saying, don't feed the trolls? Consider the neopuritans trolls. Don't reward their shitty behavior with attention, and eventually they'll fade into the background and learn that they'll have to be respectful in order to engage properly with fandom
You know, I really object to the idea that cartoon line art of butts should be regarded as pornographic.
Like, I'm sure it could be. But simply being art of a butt does not pornography make. I really don't think my joyful, rainbow-coloured, dancing butts are deserving of a 'mature' label. I just don't.
Some of the stuff I produce? Sure! But butts are not inherently pornographic. They're also just very funny things.
Anyway, fuck neo-puritanism, as imposed by computers on behalf of credit card companies and transphobes.

I just saw a bad take on Tiktok and I would like to explore it. For the most part, the person is right in saying that children's shows led to a lot of people subconsciously developing kinks, but then goes on to suggest that the showrunners are bad/not good for letting the scenes air.
Oxford defines fetish as "a form of sexual desire in which gratification is strongly linked to a particular object or activity or a part of the body other than the sexual organs." The example it gives is surgical masks.
In other words, the mundane. Eating. Drinking. Sleeping. Sneezing. Balloons. Surgical masks. Gloves. All not inherently sexual items/activities. Well-known fetishes such as inflation still aren't inherently sexual (i.e. Willy Wonka, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Totally Spies). The idea of inflation makes people uncomfortable, and that's okay! Oftentimes, it is not supposed to make the viewer feel comfortable about what is happening, and it always has something to do with the plot.
To arrive at a point to all this, to suggest that children's content should be screened 24/7 for possible fetishes is a telling pursuit; the things aren't inherently sexual, especially to children. Children are going to develop fetishes anyway despite any meddling on anyone's part; that's just how some people's development works. Policing of that kind is neopuritan in nature, and a pointless pursuit. Let children be children, and of course some level of monitoring what media they consume should be exercised, but you needn't be afraid of Cartoon Network.
Wondering whether part of the reason that I, as a Millennial, can't really understand this Neopuritan phenomenon appearing in pockets of Gen Z's
is because whereas my experience of the internet growing up was as a revolutionary gateway to new ideas, content, and experiences (some pornographic) that was largely alien to my parents and of little interest to them
they've had to deal with uncomfortable situations like their Moms confronting their Dads about their Grindr profile
and the family having to sit down and decide who's going to talk to Grandpa about the fetish art he keeps posting on his Facebook.
