Haru was not much of an early morning person.
It may be hard to believe, but it’s true.
Kyoko on the other hand was an early riser and a morning person. Two opposites.
“Haru-chan? Ne ne, Haru-chan?” Kyoko was lightly shaking Haru by the shoulder, trying to wake her up.
They had a sleepover at Haru’s house last night and Kyoko like always, woke up first.
Just like the sun, she was an early riser.
It was just last night when they were discussing different cake recipes that they wanted to try out, along with special pancakes. Lambo was fond of a particular pancake mix which made really thick and fluffy pancakes!
Nana was really good at making them and the girls wanted to try to make something as similar as they could to her pancakes.
They happened to ask her last time how she made them, and she secretly brought them over to a pantry and showed the pancake mix. Lambo was always craving snacks at random hours of the day so she had to be able to make something quickly.
What was quicker than using a premade mix? Nothing, that’s what.
Still, it took a lot of skill to make the pancakes. If they weren’t made right, they could burn, not be fluffy, or worse… taste kind of powdery. THAT is an insult to anything which has the word ‘CAKE’ in it.
Cakes weren’t allowed to be powdery.
The two girls decided to practice making the pancakes early in the morning and Haru had asked Kyoko to wake her up.
Sleepovers were becoming a common thing between the two girls, to the point that they could easily make themselves at home at the others houses.
They knew where everything was and fit in well with the rest of the family.
Ryohei was a bit awkward around Haru at times, but not because he wasn’t the best at dealing with females.
As a girl who was one of Kyoko’s best friends, he had to treat her well! Upsetting Haru meant upsetting Kyoko and anything that upset Kyoko was a pressing matter for Ryohei. It was then he decided, “Treat anyone who treats Kyoko well with EXTREME KINDNESS!”- that was his plan, anyways.
Still, he couldn’t help but feel nervous when he was around Haru. He wasn’t sure why.
Perhaps it was the crazy costumes she brought over.
Or the fact that she could be just as loud and active as he was.
It was like… a female version of himself. It was weird.
He couldn’t quite place what it was about her that made him so uneasy.
Kyoko’s parents loved Haru, and the same went for Haru’s parents loving Kyoko.
They adored the polite and cheerful girl. Haru’s father even started to regard Kyoko as his second daughter with how often she was over and how fond of her he was.
Kyoko and Haru were the best of friends and they got along so well. He had never seen anyone who played along with Haru so easily.
It was no wonder that Haru was always visiting her Namimori friends whenever she found the chance. While Haru found it easy to befriend many people, it wasn’t often when Haru hit it off with someone so quickly.
No matter how much she was shaking Haru, she just wasn’t waking up.
All she would do is raise her head, look at the clock and plop her head back down. “Just… 5 more minutes please…” She mumbled.
With a small little sigh, and a cheek puff, “That’s what you said last time and the time before that. This time is the last time, okay? I’m stomping my foot down on this one.” Kyoko tried to speak as sternly as she could, but her voice still had a ring of friendliness and playfulness.
Unbeknownst to her, her soothing voice was making Haru drift even deeper into sleep-land.
She didn’t have it in her to really stress her feelings. She tended to be more of a passive person, and it was only when the situation was dire that she would be outright with her feelings.
None to only some people, Kyoko was an extremely passionate person who was very much in touch with her own feelings. She often worried about how much of her emotions she could show without it being too much.
Very protective of those she cared about, but still very mindful of her actions. It was the fact that so many people would be so inclined to do whatever it is that she said, that she had to be careful.
She was the ‘perfect daughter’ or the ‘school idol’ and to some ‘the perfect angel.’ She had a lot of pressure regardless of what anyone thought of her.
Many thing she wanted to do or say she couldn’t in due respects to those who idolized her. She would feel guilty if she had done something to tarnish their ‘dreams’ of what she was like.
Now, it isn’t to say that she wasn’t a friendly and kind person. She was, but she wasn’t as pure as one would think.
Sometimes she’d want to act out on her anger, or vent her feelings but she couldn’t. She had an image to keep.
Not one she asked for, but was bestowed upon her.
Haru on the other hand… was the opposite.
She was a force to be reckoned with! If there was something she wanted to do, she was going to do it.
It was against social norm? Didn’t bother her any!
Always running around and saying whatever it was she pleased. Haru was… like a dream. An embodiment of freedom and creativity.
Never was Haru not dreaming about her future or her goals. She wasn’t afraid to get down and dirty and strive for her goals.
Kyoko was tied down by her expectations and her guilt of betraying others. She often hesitated when it came to important decisions while Haru could make them swiftly. Give her something minor to decide on? That’s when Haru takes forever.
The one who takes the longest time to decide on cakes is in fact Haru.
In truth, Kyoko had many interests and hobbies that didn’t suit her ‘image’ and it was pretty disheartening.
Then Haru came along.
Sometimes it was like Haru could see through Kyoko and offer her the way. The best thing about Haru was that she was from another school and thus didn’t have any expectations from her.
Kyoko would truly feel like she could be free around Haru to do whatever it was she wanted.
There was a time when someone from her fanclub had told Haru about her reputation at school when they were out playing together. At that point, Kyoko thought it was done and over.
On the contrary, it was the exact opposite.
“Hahi! Kyoko-chan has such a fitting nickname! Anyone with such a bright smile that rivals Haru could only be known as an Idol-desu! A perfect angel? Are you trying to say that Haru is any less of a perfect angel? Haru will have you know that her father would disagree! What makes you think that angels can’t enjoy cosplay? Did YOU write the bible? Did you meet an angel in real life? Hahi! Don’t make up lies! Kyoko is Haru’s friend and as my friend she is free to enjoy Haru’s activities with her! Now goodbye.”
Honestly?
She felt so relieved to hear those words coming from Haru.
Somehow she was always saving her from her indecisiveness and from her inability to express herself in fear that she’ll hurt those she cared about.
More than anything, disappointing her loved ones was the most painful and fearful thing for her.
Not saying that Haru did not feel the same way, but Haru was strong enough to face that head on. She was brave enough to beat down anything and make herself a better person.
Don’t be surprised to see her even beat her own self up for the sake of bettering herself. It was something that Kyoko honestly admired about Haru.
The day that Haru suggested that they cosplay to make Tsuna feel better at the hospital was one of her precious memories. She’s always wanted to play dress up with different costumes.
Not just some cute and pretty things that made her look even more of a princess.
She wanted to try wearing other things which weren’t as cute! The ones that she could wear and laugh at later!
Haru was always that opportunity giver. For that, Kyoko felt ever so grateful.
Perhaps… it was when Haru noticed Kyoko’s hesitation to solve I-pin’s illness was when Kyoko realized something important to her.
It wasn’t simple admiration and gratitude she felt towards the other female.
It was something much more pure and simple, and yet also so very complex.
She loved Haru, more than anything in the world.
The moment she realized that Haru could get hurt… or worse out there, is the moment she ran to find someone to find Haru and bring her back. For once she didn’t care how anyone else saw her.
She had to ensure that Haru would be safe. Kyoko couldn’t handle the emotions bubbling in her chest to know that Haru may never call her name ever again. She wouldn’t be able to calm herself if anything happened to her.
Not when she just figured out how she felt about her.
Bianchi brought her back and that night when they were alone, Kyoko broke down crying. She had to stay strong in front of the others. She didn’t want to let others see her cry.
Ryohei and Tsuna would make a fuss, sure, but she didn’t really like to show her real emotions to others. It may have been an effect of constantly having to keep up an image.
She had to play dumb, she always had to appear happy, and most of all, she couldn’t truly show her real self. So many times she wanted to throw it all away and shed off her mask, but she couldn’t.
Somehow, she just couldn’t.
Haru simply held her and let Kyoko cry until she was satisfied, never leaving her side for a moment, while apologizing for worrying her.
Kyoko cared very much for Tsuna, don’t get her wrong, but she didn’t feel the same way for him. While not at the same degree, he was like the others who viewed her as ‘the idol.’
Haru viewed her without anything blocking her vision of her true self.
It honestly hurt to see Haru pining over Tsuna, but she never said anything about it to her. More than anything in the world, she didn’t want to see Haru hurt.
With a quiet sigh, Kyoko rested her arms on her knees and she buried her face in.
It was tough trying to hide her feelings, all of them.
It honestly hurt with how strongly she felt for Haru, but she held herself back in order to not hurt her.
What if she told Haru the truth and she started to avoid her? Kyoko couldn’t even think about it. She desperately repressed her feelings every time, for fear that Haru wouldn’t look at her the same any more.
She heard shuffling sounds from Haru moving around in her futon, and before Kyoko knew it, there were arms wrapped around her shoulder.
“I caught you. What is it that is bothering you now? Don’t lie to me.” Haru spoke calmly, but her tone had a certain feel of sternness to it.
Over the course of the year, Kyoko had come to know when Haru was being serious and when she was fooling around and having the time of her life.
Though her concerns were appreciated, she couldn’t consult Haru about this.
She shook her head, and Haru sighed, resting her forehead against the back of Kyoko’s head.
“School?” She asked.
“Aha… Haru-chan is so good at guessing.”
“Home.”
“Sometimes I wonder how it is you know me this well.” Kyoko laughed lightly.
“Me.”
“…” Kyoko couldn’t find the words to say.
Kyoko felt the warmth of Haru’s arms leave her regretfully.
Haru moved so Kyoko and she were face to face. “So you are bothered about me. Tell me.” Haru’s voice echoed through Kyoko’s ears with pressure.
The way Haru’s eyes bore into hers made her uncomfortable, and frightened that she’d be able to see the truth.
So much did this lighter haired girl want to escape and cry alone.
Fighting the tears threatening to fall from her eyes, she forced herself to look away from Haru. She couldn’t do this. Not right now.
“Kyoko, look at me.”
“…Please.” Haru stressed this part, sounding a bit desperate.
Shaking her head, Kyoko hid her face behind the pillow that Haru had just been using. She could smell Haru’s scent on the pillow faintly and found it reassuring somehow.
Haru watched as Kyoko behaved in this peculiar fashion, but it wasn’t like she had no eyes. She had been reading a few signs.
At first she thought that she was reading too much into it, but she was sure of it.
The reason why Ryohei found it to be awkward around her was for this reason. Kyoko was in love with her, and even he had picked some of that up.
“Is it about your feelings for me?” She asked gently.
The way her shoulders flinched answered the question being asked. So that’s what it was.
Silent whimpering sounds which could only mean that Kyoko was crying out of fear of the repercussions of Haru finding out.
Reaching out, Haru took one of Kyoko’s hands and brought it up to her lips and planted a gentle kiss on the back of her hand.
“You know, more than an idol or an angel, Haru has always thought of you a Princess.”
Curious about where Haru was going with this, she peeked out from the pillow with tear-filled eyes.
“Did you know? When I was younger she once said she wanted to be the prince. I loved to beat the bad guys and the costumes were really cool.” She giggled. She wrapped both of her hands around Kyoko’s and looked deeply into her eyes.
“I think I feel the same way now. Kyoko, I love you too. If you are willing, will you be my exclusive princess?”
It was as if the world just froze. Did she just hear that right?
Did… Haru say that she loved her as well?
“I thought that you loved Tsuna-kun?”
“Hahi? Haru loves everyone. Sure, I had a crush on him, but that’s different from love. I only continued to act the same way in order to figure out how you felt. You hide your emotions too much, and I had a hard time reading you this time.” She huffed. “If you made it more obvious, I would have told you sooner that I loved you too.”
“Ca-can you repeat that?” Kyoko managed to squeak out meekly.
It was those words that she thought she could only hear of dreaming.
To ensure that she wasn’t dreaming right now, she needed to hear them one last time.
“Mou...” Playfully, Haru tugged on Kyoko’s hand, and being taken off guard Kyoko fell forward and she found herself on top of Haru.
“Haru loves you too, silly~” Haru grinned as she kissed Kyoko on the lips. “Haru sealed the kiss. Now you are Haru’s exclusive princess.” Haru winked.
Kyoko’s face went red and she moved away from Haru and hid her face behind the pillow. “Mou!~ You’re so embarrassing!” She whined, desperately trying to hide how flustered she was.
At this point Haru was rolling up the futons while giggling to herself, finding the reaction so cute.
The only one who could see Haru’s raw emotions was herself and she was the only one who could call Kyoko a princess.
These rights belonged to her and her alone.
“Hai hai, let’s go Kyoko-chan. We have to make those pancakes.” Now it was her turn to urge Kyoko.
I'm not sure whether or not there is supposed to be context for the OPM art, but in the Korean the artist's note essentially says: "It would be nice if Saitama had (pong pong--> meaning to cry out a lot, like crying out one's heart) cried once like this when he was a younger child."
OH MY GOSH THAT’S SO SAD ;_;. (link)
Like in the series, it’s pretty much stated that Saitama wishes he felt something anymore (usually referring to excitement while fighting, but he didn’t have anyone close to him before either so he was lonely). Now I totally understand what the artist was saying, thank you for translating that :)
Poor Saitama though, I just wanna give that precious egg a hug.
Another one, because I can: He is small and has some mad skillz. He is good with a ball, like damn. Did you hear that just now? Just talking about him brought about a storm outside my window. He must be practicing his signature move.
GOING TO ROLLING THUNDER MY WAY OUT LIFE I’M MORTIFIED HOW COULD I NOT-
