A police manhunt is under way after a suspect rammed a car into a crowd at a Pride event in the German capital on Saturday night.
I had wanted to be back today to be on time for Pride and CSD, but as a queer person in Germany and after what happened in Berlin last night I won't be posting today.
For those of you who don't know last night a car drove into people during Berlins CSD. One of the biggest ones in the country. One woman has died and many others got injured.
The suspected person has been shot when he attacked the police as they tried to arrest them and they failed to reanimate him. He is now being named as an Islamic terrorist, which yes all evidence points to as he, according to the german public media, previously tried to join the ISIS. But in my opinion we should not forget this was motivated by homophobia and the pure hatred for people who are part of our community. And the spreading islamophobia won't help us queer people feel safer or more protected.
I am thinking of all the victims, who suffered life-changing trauma and injuries last night, and of the loved ones, who now have to grieve a woman who shouldn't have died this young.
