Smooth Knob-tailed Gecko - Nephrurus levis occidentalis

The Nephrurus levis complex (Carphodactylidae), endemic to Australia, is generally considered to comprise three subspecies; N. levis levis, N. levis pilbariensis and N. levis occidentalis, but recognition of subspecies is easily confused because they have very similar morphology and some characteristics ascribed to the different subspecies can be ambiguous or difficult to apply.

It is supposed that Nephrurus levis occidentalis has larger, wider and more depressed tail than other members of the complex. It is restricted to the arid and semi-arid west coast of Western Australia.
