When Razer first visits Hal’s apartment he has to suspiciously poke around for himself because sure he trusts Hal with his life but he doesn’t trust him not to be a troll

so last week three of my favorite people and i got to go see starkid’s yes i am afraid of the dark improv on opening night/my birthday and~~~

first of all we found this really gr9 bbq place by iO called dino’s bbq and wow the food was so hecking quality i could probably eat there for ev er. bbq pork fried rice, mac n cheese, brisket, ribs, some other type of pig, plus i had some kind of gingery basil cocktail which was excellent. ~~~food~~~

but then BONUS SURPRISE the improv theater had food and booze to eat in the theater, which was sweet. we ended up front row, all the way house right, close enough that if ramin karimloo had been onstage, we’d have been covered in spittle and sweat. drenched. so close to the nerdlords.

meredith and mark opened the show with two bonus humans who aren’t nerdlords just kind of jamming, and the jams were really sweet, but like... it was kind of the usual mark/mere jam vibe, which is super chill and relaxed. which is fine, it’s awesome, but maybe not ideal to get people pumped for a spoopy improv show??? also mere sang this song she wrote, telling us about how it was about this failed relationship of hers and juli and i later discussed that it felt weird because WAS IT ABOUT HER AND MARK??? ABOUT HER AND BRIAN??? DID THEY BREAK UP AND IS IT WEIRD??? WHATS HAPPENING. idk it was just a weird choice to perform when you’ve got a fandom as weird and crazy as theirs is.

the improv was fun. i am normally not a fan of improv because it cranks up my anxiety through the roof, but i genuinely enjoyed myself. thankfully, the crowd was mostly adults, so there was very very minimal shrieking and the like; it was a really nice vibe. afaik, this is the real time the nerdlords have done improv like this, so it was a little shaky at times, but i legit laughed like a fucking moron. it could have been better, there could have been more structure to it, but i had a blast. i did feel a little bad though, one of my friends had never seen the nerdlords before and i felt like it wasnt the strongest intro to them he could have had, but that’s what the internet is for. 

so the *lobby* of the theater is a bar, so after the show, instead of there being some kind of stage door, they all just kind of ambled out into the bar??? and yes as an actor i would appreciate that 100%, as a human who is awkward and doesn’t handle any sort of surprise well, it freaked me out real hard. i could have handled an actual stage door interaction just fine, but like... approaching them in a bar and being like “yes hello you are swell and i appreciate you as an artist can you sign my shirt thank and bless” like

that is WEIRD

so obviously i did not do the thing, but these are things that happened:

~juli discovered a mysterious third Lang brother along with matt lang sitting in the audience; she kept making weird eye contact with them both??? idk i thought i saw nick but he is smol and i am bad with faces

~usually i’m just kind of like “awww joe walker you’re so cute :3” but wow i developed a raaaaaging boner for him that night; his shirt was a little too short and we kept getting little peeks of lower tummy and oh wow oh gosh~~~ also i had prime tickets to the gun show hot DAMN; also bonus prolonged eye contact during/after curtain call, and it was CLEARLY not like him just staring out since i was all of 3 feet away from him, direct eye contact bruh whAT

~lauren lopez is the tiniest little woodland sprite; i could scoop her up and put her in my fanny pack

~also so is brian holden holy crap he is so smol and precious. also he was remarkably cool and chill with rando girls spontaneously hugging him and taking selfies with him. i mean he’s probably used to it but still.

~denise donovan is fucking hilarious and i feel bad that it took so long for her to grow on me. she and joe were so hecking funny in the improv; her faces are just a total gift. she is also VERY SMOL WHY ARE ACTORS SO SMOL

~i still really need jamie to be gay and date me. she’s flawless.

so yes the night was a success, despite my favorite thai place being closed for labor day weekend (booooooooooooooooo), and now im 26 and it’s weird

other than that near death experience, 15/10 would totes recommend.
