I don't quite know. I'm not really sure where I am in the present.

Does he pick up a Michigan accent while he's there?  :D  It's funny how I never noticed how much of a MI accent there even was until I moved out here to WA!

This is totally me!  Apparently when I first moved to Michigan from NC I had a really heavy NC accent, which I pick up again when I talk to my sister for extended periods of time (she stayed there when the rest of my family moved to MI in the 80s).
