Hello! For Compilation of Rook Questions: 2, 4 and 14? :>
2 — What is your favorite headcanon for your Rook?
I have quite a few, but I’ll go with my headcanon that she’s a talented dancer; her mother had her enrolled in ballet classes from a young age, and then she studied other types of dance as she got older. When she ran away from home at 17, she made her living dancing in small shows across northern Thedas. Then she fell in with a mercenary company whose leader took a liking to her and offered to teach her how to fight; her natural balance and dexterity from her years of dance training really helped out. Even now, she has a very dancer-like fighting style. Lots of spins, fancy footwork, and precise movement. Every fight is like a performance, and her war hammer is her dance partner. (in a modern AU, I like to imagine that Phryne's career is that of a Broadway star, like Patti Lupone or Sutton Foster)
4 — What is the worst loss your Rook has endured? How did they deal with that?
Phryne lost her son, Rothe, about a decade before the start of Veilguard. Rothe was a templar who went to join the Inquisition, and unfortunately he never made it home alive — he died in the Arbor Wilds. The Inquisition sent his body home for a proper Nevarran burial. Obviously Phryne was devastated. No parent wants to outlive their child. And to make matters worse, Rothe had a young son that he left in Nevarra. Not to mention Rothe’s twin sister, Phryne’s other child, Elke. Phryne felt like she had to be the strong one to support her daughter and grandson as they grieved. But, Phryne is Nevarran; death is in their marrow. They bury Rothe’s body, time passes, and the pain fades into a dull ache. It helps that Phryne knows he truly believed in the Inquisition’s cause, so he died fighting for something he cared about. That's a small comfort, at least.
14 — Extra: If someone wanted to reach your Rook but couldn't find them, who would be the best person to ask where they are?
Your best option would be her daughter, Elke. They’re very close, and tried to keep in regular contact via letters during Phryne’s exile. After the eluvian network is unlocked, Phryne visits her family at least once every week, so Elke would be the person that sees her the most (outside of the Veilguard companions). Honestly, if you can’t find Phryne, chances are she’s just hanging out at home with her family lol.
