Why didnt netflix do this instead?

So ive had two ideas for better adaptations so far for death note

1: either take the original pilot story from the how to read book. The one that follows taro kagami and make his story into a feature film. It is ling enough to make a movie out of but not long enough for a series and i think they could have done something good with the original lore.

Or

2: follow the shinigami from relight 1 visions of a god an his journey to the human world and create an entirely new story line where they could have been given the creative freedom with nearly no boundries other than the fact that ryuks cannon still happened.
