If I had a nickel for every time a late 2010’s death note movie had a character meant to look like that story’s equivalent to Light but was actually the narrative parallel to Misa, I’d have two nickels

why😭😭is there😭😭😭😭an american😭😭😭😭version of😭😭😭😭death note😭😭😭😭😭😭😭light turner😭😭😭😭😭OUT
Its on old ass topic but just felt like rambling about it today.
One of the big problems Netflix Death Note had, besides its many other problems, was that while if you had to set it in America a White Light might have been the right choice the big fumble of execution was them just making him have the vibes of the worlds most obvious school shooter.
Cause with OG Light while we know he is a fruit loop with a god complex and a magic murder book; To everyone else he is the model teen. Inteligent, conventionally attractive, good stable family, reasonably athletic but not brutish, and in his younger years manages to even date and idol. Like other parents should tell their kids to be more like Light. Part of the irony is while Light wants to be god of a new world he is very much protected by the privelege he has in the old one.
So yes if you set it in America I could see getting a white Light who is still a cops kid and like the foot ball star with a cheerleader girlfriend; Well ok Misa is a cheerleader in Netflix Deathnote but she is also made an obvious mass shooter type and also for some confusing reason treated like she is evilier than Light and in a way the real antagonist at the end. But for some reason they do this swerve and I dont know why. If I had to guess causw they either thought it made him more relatable? The writers really got stuck on a school shooter metaphor and crammed it? Or maybe they did it cause they really wanted the eviler than thy Misa element to ""work""?
Which there is probably even more I can dig into on that comparison and maybe could later but just wanted to get the basic thought off my chest.
