How have we grown?
As I reflect upon the last few writings, I have come to think about the correlation between learning, literacy, and citizenship. Does our society truly support a good citizen? Honestly, I have my doubts. In the readings I have found a simple form of dividing citizenship, but I find flaws within the ideal that is promoted. The interesting thing to me was that governmental participation by citizens has declined with part of the preferred "type" becoming more and more popular. Have we gone too far? Maybe. As I pointed out in my “diet” writing, there is a lot of junk food out there, maybe too much. Maybe the point should be to teach children and young adults to choose the right information diet. Currently, I feel we teach our children to interact and care about their community, but do not show them how to respond responsibly to the government and digest the information properly. These lessons can then be encouraged and can grow into a healthy responsible citizen and information literacy habit.
We as a small network, can in turn affect larger networks and when using modern media, we can express and promote views which can inspire and influence others on an increasingly faster and faster scale.
I know that I have grown as I have aged. I have applied my life lessons, cleaned up my diet, and valued my connections. I hope that this platform, though small it may be, will provoke thought and consciousness in readers and in turn offer someone else in this network the same personal insight and growth.
