What is network fare? I tried looking it up and got nowhere :( is it what pays the most to writers?
"Network fare" means content produced for one of the traditional broadcast networks, CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, or The CW.
It's a useful distinction vs. streaming shows because network shows are more constrained with regard to budget, run time, explicit content, and structure, and also tend to be more episodic, telling self-contained standalone stories, rather than the serialized storytelling in most streaming shows.
Because of these constraints, people tend to dismiss the terrific writing for shows like High Potential or Ghosts in favor of the higher budget, splashier, more explicit storytelling on streaming shows. Which is a shame, IMO, because it's actually very difficult to write inside the lines required by the networks, and managing to pull it off should be lauded, not ignored.
