A Year in the Life of COVID-19 - March 2021 (The Epilogue)
Here we come. We have come a complete full circle around. It has been more than one year of being stuck in quarantine. I'm tired. You're tired. We're all tired. Vaccinations are our only hope of expediting the return to normalcy. By the end of March, ALL Ohioans aged 16 and up will be eligible for the COVID-19 Vaccine.
A shutdown that was supposed to last three weeks, has lasted over one year. Our economy was ripped to shreds. Our lives held hostage. Crime and violence have gone up. The inequities of women were exposed front and center again. And we're not even done, as Variant Strains of the Virus have been discovered.
We have learned the ins and outs of Virtual Learning, done the learning from home, worked from home, done viral videos from home, and while all that is fine and dandy, I can't wait to get back to my normal life. I can't wait to stop wearing masks. But until I get my vaccine, and all health orders cease, I will listen to what our health experts say, and you should too.
Networking 101
Alright, ladies & gents. I’m going to dish on my experience about ... NETWORKING. Honestly, it was and is a scary word for me. I always felt like “well, the job should go to whoever is most qualified” and didn’t really like networking... But IF YOU CAN’T BEAT ‘EM, JOIN ‘EM. Well, sorta.
I’ve realized that networking, when done correctly, WILL ALWAYS BENEFIT YOU. So why not at least attempt it?! Plus, everyone is SO. FRIENDLY. AND. WELCOMING. TO. COLLEGE. STUDENTS. AND. NEW. GRADUATES. (just young people in general). I’m serious. People really appreciate you taking the time to poke around and learn about the field, and since you’re a student/newly graduated/young, they’re even more willing to help out.
Mid-last month, I decided to actively try networking. First, I made sure my LinkedIn profile was all updated & perfectly polished. Then, I went on LinkedIn and started typing the positions I’d be interested in having after graduation. I would scan a few profiles, but the ideal person would have:
New to mid-level work experience. Relatively new to the field (think fresh college graduates in their first job post-college) to mid level experienced (10 years or less). This made them feel approachable to me. I didn’t want to talk to a CEO when I was just dipping my toes in the water! I just wanted to get some idea of the job, the market, and the industry. Start small!
DJBC Tumblr Fall 21 - CoHatch: The Riverwalk Grand Opening
The Grand Opening of the latest CoHatch co-working space took place a couple of weekends ago up in Historic Downtown Dublin. "The Riverwalk", as this one is being called lives up to its name, because you can get a view of The Dublin Link from their location.
The Dublin CoHatch is connected to the adjacent North High Brewing, right on High Street.
This is the latest CoHatch location in Central Ohio. The Westerville CoHatch is slated to open some time in 2022. CoHatch also has locations in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Tampa, and dare I say it, Springfield (Ohio).
For more on CoHatch, go to http://www.cohatch.com.
Networking has changed in the last 100 days since COVID-19 altered our lives forever. This morning, I was supposed to be at a Breakfast With Business First/Creative Mornings Doubleheader...again. The latter event happened virtually, while the former event was supposed to be at Ohio Dominican University, for the seventh straight year in June. Here are highlights from past Ohio Dominican-hosted Business First Breakfasts.
