I watched Network (1976) last night, and I had NO IDEA what I was really getting into. It’s a fantastic film about network news that really hones in on the crux of the CV19 “crisis” that we are in today. If you can spare a few hours, take a gander, it was one social satire that spawns many thoughts about the state of affairs today.
This clip shows one of my favourite scenes from this film, and prolly one of my fave monologues of all time TBH. The fictitious UBS network owner drones on about how the world really works (in his opinion obvi), and from all the rando research that I’ve been doing these past few months, I’ve got to say it’s en pointe. Enjoy.
“You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples ... There is only IBM and ITT and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide and Exxon. Those are the nations of the world today. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable by-laws of business.” Arthur Jensen, UBS Network owner
