Not saying this as a monolith, but neurotypicals feel kinda hypocritical.

They tell you to be honest, but then when you're honest, you're told you're being mean or insensitive.

You try to be polite, but then they don't even meet you halfway.

They tell you to be yourself, but then when you are, they hate you.

When you say exactly what you mean, they suspect that you have ulterior motives.

It feels like an unwinnable game that I never agreed to play, one where everyone expects me to know the rules by heart and keep up with when the rules change out of the fucking blue.

Like why the fuck am I the one who has to bend over backwards for you when you won't even try to understand me? If you genuinely don't get it, then SAY THAT instead of assuming I know. /gen

If you deliberately keep referring to someone as a "person with autism" because we're "people first and foremost," even after they've told you they prefer "autistic person," by not respecting their choice, you're NOT putting the person first.

It’s time for Neurotypical Hypocrisy, Part 1:

If a neurotypical kid hits another kid once, they’re just given a lecture and a timeout.

If an autistic kid hits another kid once, they have “behavioral problems” and “are a danger to other children.”

Where is the logic? WHERE IS THE LOGIC?

Autistic Person: *is disorganized.*

NT: You should know these things. I've been teaching them to you for years. Why haven't you developed an organizing system?

Autistic Person: *tries to use an organizing system that makes sense to them, but doesn't make sense to NTs.*

NT: Sweetie, you're doing it wrong. Here, I'll show you the RIGHT way to do it.

Neurotypical Hypocrisy 2:

If a neurotypical person is very interested/passionate about something, they’re encouraged to pursue it.

If an autistic person is very interested/passionate about something, they’re deemed “obsessive.”

Also in relation to that.

If a neurotypical talks a lot about something they know a lot about, they’re a “nerd” and “nerds are cool.”

If an autistic talks a lot about something they know a lot about, they’re “annoying” and “monopolizing” and “insufferable know-it-alls” (Hermione Granger is autistic, fight me, you distasteful subjects and ableist fedoras.)

WHERE’S THE LOGIC, NEUROTYPICALS? WHERE’S THE FUCKING LOGIC?
