“I tried my best to be guarded, I’m an open book instead”
↳ Biography:
Andromeda was always ‘the other black sister’ growing up. She’s never been as good as her sisters, and her parents made sure she knew it. Why can’t you be as powerful as Bellatrix? Why can’t you be as beautiful as Narcissa? Why can’t you be as smart them? Why, why, why? But Andromeda never had the answers. After years of being verbally abused, she became a bit unstable.
It wasn’t obviously evident in her childhood. She was the quiet one at home, she didn’t speak out of turn, and never threw tantrums. Andromeda tried so hard to be a better daughter, a better pureblood, but she was always falling short. She wasn’t as ladylike as Narcissa, nor was she as firm in the right beliefs as Bellatrix. She couldn’t dance with grace, or plan a fancy dinner party. She was mediocre in the magic their parents taught them before Hogwarts. Andromeda was the worst thing her mother could imagine; average.
Then came Hogwarts, she was sorted into Slytherin, but only because she begged. The Sorting Hat thought she’d been better suited for Ravenclaw. Andromeda quickly latched on to her sister, but even Bellatrix couldn’t stop others from noticing that the middle black sister didn’t quite fit in. She was taunted by older students when she was spotted showing kindness to muggleborns, even hexed once or twice in her first year for daring to come between a sixth year the object of his bullying.
So she changed. Andromeda spent the summer after her first year studying Dark Arts. She spent more and more time with Bellatrix, who made her younger sister into a mini me. By the time she started her second year, Andromeda was nearly unrecognizable. She was cruel, wouldn’t speak to any who weren’t pureblood. she spent her evenings with Bellatrix and her lackeys, bullying muggleborns. Andromeda lost herself between her second and fifth years. It wasn’t until one day the bullying went to far. A muggleborn girl who wouldn’t back down, and of course Andromeda herself couldn’t back down, not with Bellatrix and Rodolphus watching. The girl ended up in the hospital wing for a week.
It was then Andromeda realized just how messed up her life was. How messed up she was. She’d let her insecurities that had been beat into her since birth change her fundamentally. She hated herself, who she’d become. Andromeda turned to drinking, finding older students to get her firewhiskey. She skipped lessons, retreated into herself, getting drunk more and more. Sirius was the one who finally snapped her out of it, after he’d freed himself. He was the one who saw her struggling, who pulled her out of the abyss she’d sunk into.
By the beginning of sixth year she had found herself. She still had nightmares about the kids she’d bullied, especially the girl she put in the hospital. Andromeda vowed that she’d never let anyone change her, she wouldn’t let them tell her what to believe, and she sure as hell wouldn’t let them chose her life for her. She made a promise to herself that from then on she’d make up for what she’d done by helping people. She threw herself into her studies, focusing on becoming a Healer. Slowly Andromeda started making friends with halfbloods, muggleborns, people she actually wanted to be around.
But Andromeda was careful, she didn’t want to lose her sisters. Although she hated what Bellatrix had made her into, she didn’t want anyone in her family to hate her. She wasn’t as strong as Sirius, she couldn’t handle being disowned. So she simply stopped having an opinion around her family. She didn’t participate in conversations about blood purity or the dark lord. Andromeda simply nodded or excused herself, though she knew eventually all this would come to a head.
After graduation Andromeda jumped into a paid internship at St. Mungos. She moved herself out of her parent’s home. She was allowed to fully bloom into herself. Though honestly, most of her time is spent at St. Mungos. Andromeda is a certified Mediwitch now and is flourishing in her life. She’s proud to say she’s stayed out of the war thus far, and plans on keeping it that way. All she wants is to find a nice man to settle down and start a family. Hopefully with a man her family will approve of so she doesn’t lose them completely.
