Breakdown of the Old Gods / Vessels and just how that all works since theyve been more active recently.
Cthulhu: Known as The Priest amongst the gods and Vessels, is technically the head of them all, the one that called them all awake and will, in the new era, lead both mortals and gods. He can go into the void, and, recieve the visions of past, present, future. Adonis' job was to sort through the visions to determine what the void (and the god) has told them. his domain is the water, the deep sea and the creatures that dwell within them.
Hastur: Known as the King in Yellow, The Great Prince of the Old Ones and The Unspeakable one, often takes the form of a golden chinese dragon. His Vessel is Gabriel. King of the air and clouds (and a bit of the lightening too) Hastur is the brother of Cthulhu. one of the more violent vessels for the more violent host.
Daoloth: The Veil Render, the one who can see multiple realms within his eyes, life and death, the keeper of knowledge from the other side. Vessel is Nix, who is the full blooded brother of Adonis. It is said that to see the true form of the god would be enough to drive men to madness for eternity. Daoloth's true form is a Manticcore, and while the form itself does not cause madness, the poison from the tail or fangs is painful enough to drive men mad.
Ithaqua: The Death Walker, The Father of Windigos. vessel is Sterling. one of the more violent vessel / god duos, they are tasked with the defense and the be the terror, the hand that strikes fear and respect into the world once more. as the father of windigos, consuming humans is part of the vessel contract, but, due to Sterling's brain and spirit nearly shattering the first time he couldn't stop himself from devouring another human, the god and him struck a deal. hearts, and hearts only. human or animal, though human gave him more stamina and strength.
Nyarlathotep: The crawling Chaos, The Dark Demon. His Vessel is Cyrus. son of Azathoth, it is his job to carry out the god's orders swiftly. He is the head general and the main force to be reckoned with as the gods awaken and congregate as The Priest calls them awake.
Azathoth: only a half functioning god, as his vessel accidentally stumbled into becoming one. and, has a blood contract that lasts 10 years. he (and Jackson Maddox, his vessel) is written on my main blog, as he is seperated from the rest.
The gods themselves are incredibly hard to kill, and once their vessels agree to it, they also become incredibly hard to kill, though not impossible. each god has a specific weapon forged by men ages ago, hidden across the world away from the cult, in case humanity ever needed to fight them back. each weapon, if used in a fatal blow, will kill both host and vessel. without that weapon however, the god cannot be killed. there are, at the moment, four of these weapons located. and are all in the possession of the Barinov Cult, kept safe with Nikita's children. The weapons are as follows: Silvertongue the folly of Ithaqua, Wavebreecher the folly of Cthulhu, Lightbringer the folly of Hastur, and Peacekeeper the folly of Nyarlathotep.
the vessels however, can in fact be exorcised, which will tear the god from the vessel's soul, killing the vessel in the process. this, is one of the most excruciating things that can be done to a vessel, as their own soul is shredded in the process.
Barinov's cult, has learned how to forge weapons that can more readily hurt and incapacitate those that have been embued with eldritch power, and possessed, though cannot kill a possessed.
