on cat, i have a similar yet opposite problem in that my fc is prettier than the actual character like other people’s characters will note cat as “pretty” or “clean” or something relating to how emily looks and i’m just… n o… emily is just a face for cat, a visual aide but she’s n o t actually emily! lmao like thank u for acknowledging an attribute but… w r o ng attribute.
see, that kind of faceclaim/character muddling is so irritating. i mean, yes, they’re a physical representation for our characters. but dude look beyond the icons and the themes into the writing, and remain realistic.
with benji, the consistent problem i have is related to his self expression -- not surprisingly. there’s a lot of focus on his hair color/style (which, beyond the second or third time there is interaction, becomes tiresome and unrealistic imo) and makeup. the particular description that immediately repulses me is the word ‘clown’, which is a sort of lazy, default descriptor for someone who is different. and i’ve noticed it’s exclusively used for male characters who happen to be feminine, which is just next level messed up.
i understand that characters may perceive him that way. like i said, first interaction - third interaction, i get it. beyond that, if your character is still focused on my character’s appearance in an obsessive way, i’m probably both confused and irritated.
i’m both glad to know i’m not alone in this and sad that other people have dealt with similar stuff.
