The North Fork of the Blackfoot... Man that was a treat. We were run out of the campground by convoys of horse trailers. I guess we missed the memo about plaid shirts, chaps, and big hand guns. We moved camp to the woods, and took the hike up the trail... Dodging piles of their beloved pets leavings. It was pretty up there. Real pretty. The fishing was decent, but there were more places to see. We packed up camp again and stopped at the bridge on our way out. I got out on to a good rock where I could roll cast decently from. I started with a sparkle minnow fished deep.. Managing two fish. In that span of time one of the most prolific stonefly hatches I've ever seen began. The deep pool I was working became stacked with suspended fish. Every fish in the river was looking up. I tied on a giant stone and picked the sizable risers. PLOP goes the bug! The flash from below... The fish launches for the grab... The line shaking water with the new tension. To the net another beautiful species. Westslope Cutties are a truly beautiful fish. We sat there pitching dries until the bulk of the hatch subsided. I tied on a girdlebug and found a couple more. One pool.. Streamers, dries, and bugs.
