Tomorrow I get to go into my classroom and get some serious setting up done as well as figure out what the heck to do about my classroom library considering my classroom is small and I have almost no shelf space to work with. AND I get to plan out my literacy block with the rest of the 4th grade team.

New classroom

I saw my new classroom today and it's pretty small. It used to be a computer lab so it doesn't have windows and the fluorescent lighting is really harsh. Does anyone have any tips on how to make a tiny classroom feel bigger/how to handle no natural light?

Emerging Classroom Culture

September 25th, 2015:

They say that when we create something new together, we create more of ourselves as well. 

As our first month comes to a close, we see a few hints of unique classroom culture that the Caterpillars have started to create together: 

"Surfboards" are a recurring play theme; piles of sticks or blocks are sometimes called "fires"; a glass Ramuné bottle has been dubbed "the bubble bottle"; and foam stickers have begun adorning everyone's bodies, especially just after rest time.

As we continue to encourage these and other emergent activities, we will also document how these threads unravel in our many days to come. Stay tuned!
