Things that worry and intrigue me. But mostly worry me:
Aura Shinsanpei’s blood type is AB and he likes reading. [x]
Kaneki parallels are generally not good for a character’s health and well being.
It’s time for “Higemaru Touma is a dork” posting. I know I said I wasn’t gonna fall in love with these kids, because Ishida is just gonna break my heart, but this boy and his dumb pink hair have won me over and I hate it.
(translations curtesy of @makyun [x])
Case 01 - His Quinque name.
You don’t even have to be able to read Kanji for this one. I sure can’t. The first red box is his last name - Higemaru. It’s made up of two Kanji. The first one is read “hige” the second “maru”. The second red box is his quinque’s name. It has three Kanji. The first and the last are the same as that of his name. The one in the middle is 鬼, which is the Kanji for “oni,” the word for “demon.”
Hence the reading of it as Hige Onimaru.
So it looks like, Like Kuroiwa senior, young Hige has gotten into the habit of naming his quinque’s after himself.
But I’m also pretty sure it’s a pun? Onimaru is the name of a sword in a bunch of different video games. And we’ve seen Hige playing video games with Saiko-senpai before.
A cursory google tells me that some final fantasy wiki is under the impression the name comes from an actual historical Japanese sword -
But wikipedia seems to disagree with this claim
So idk whose right there. It might be a historical pun, it might be a video game pun.
Either way, Hige’s quinque is literally made up of him splitting his last name in two and inserting the word “demon” in the middle.
All I can think about is him being like “oh yeah? ‘Demon’ is my middle name.”
What a dork.
If anyone has more info on what this dork’s dorky quinque name is referring too, please feel free to correct me or add to this.
I doubt Higemaru will die until at least after there's been some sort of arc related to his sense of justice being challenged.
Maybe. But then, I think there may be plenty of opportunity for that waiting for him on Rushima...
I dunno. I just feel like the New Qs won’t be around for that long. They’re late additions and they haven’t really made much of a dent. They feel like the kind of characters who are introduced just to be killed off in the next big arc, tbh.
I don’t think that means they’ll be pointless - I think if nothing else, if they die it’ll deeply effect Urie and Saiko.
But also, Aura being a Q might be used to give us more of a glimpse into the higher echelons of the CCG. Kiyoko is the division leader of Division I. That’s an incredibly high up position. If something happens to Shinsanpei, we might get to see more of how the politics look that high up. We know little things - like that there’s a simmering Washuu fight, and that Yoshitoki doesn’t really trust anyone at the top other than Marude. That Matsuri is trying to make a power play and that he’s already insinuated as much to Marude at least (they are both Division II). But it’d be great to see a bigger picture, and Aura being a Q might be a way Ishida plans to segue into that part of the narrative.
And Xiao is from the garden, which needs exploring. So there’s that.
Higemaru only has this “sense of justice” thing going for him, but he is particularly close with Saiko, so anything that happens to him might effect her particularly strongly.
If you want my frankly messed up and twisted predictions, well --
i’m kinda glad that Higemaru isn’t actually saying “Urie’s so damn hot” because i don’t wanna actually have to have feelings about this new quinx kid. If only the rest of their dialogue was also actually this boring.
mangastream seems to have corrected the other two errors, but left this one in. they are clearly trying to make me fall for this child. I must steel my heart.
