and she feels so proud of herself when she makes you blush

which is why she initiates a lot of physical contact and flirts with you a lot, so that she could see that delightful tinge of reddish-pink on your face

she doesn’t sing sea shanties anymore but after seeing how much you enjoy them, she hums the melodies to you once in awhile

xiangling (the unofficial chef of the crux) always gets you two to try her experimental dishes together, saying that seeing both your reactions gives her “inspiration for a delicious new dish!”

she actually just thinks your relationship is adorable

and so does every other crewmate aboard the crux

beidou also fels a strong sense of duty to protect you, it’s just in her nature

she pulls you aside on the night before the ship sets sail, when the sky is clear and the moon is glowing dimly

“to start, i know you can handle yourself. you’re my first mate, after all. my crewmate, my comrade on the sea—” she lets out a chuckle after the words leave her lips, “—and my girlfriend, most importantly.”

even under the dim moonlight, the blush is evident on her face as she pulls you closer to her

“but if we encounter danger on this adventure, promise to stay close to me, okay? i couldn’t bear to see you hurt, honey.”

scaramouche thinks guilt is a weak emotion; nothing about it demands power, nor does it command respect. someone of his stature should ignore this petty feeling, he tells himself, but his duties call for the opposite.

and yet his pride will not stand down. he forces falsely-empathetic and passive-aggressive words on a sheet of paper he finds at the bottom of a drawer. it is tattered and dusty, but he knows you won’t mind. (more so, you better not mind.) and so, pen threatening to break from the pressure of his grasp in hand, he writes:

“to whom it may concern,

i am writing this letter to you because the tsaritsa has politely asked me to formally apologize for, and i quote, ‘using over-aggressive and unconventional schemes to procure a result’ which is apparently ‘unbecoming of one of the eleven harbingers that were handpicked by the tsaritsa herself.’

personally, my interests go beyond trivial matters such as these, but even i cannot go against her majesty’s orders. as such, i have found enough generosity to grant you one day of free will, meaning you are not expected to follow any of my orders for 24 hours. do with that what you will.

“that mysterious blonde friend of yours stopped by earlier,” charles says as he pours the contents of a cocktail shaker into a glass. “dain.. dainsleif, was it?” he murmurs, sliding the drink in front of you. the beverage is a deep shade of purple; the carbonation sparkles like stars in the night sky. the generous portion of ice glitters as each cube floats easily at the top. wolfhook juice, you realize.

“wait— this isn’t my drink, i haven’t ordered anything yet,” you exclaim in a panic, but charles stops you from pushing the drink back to him.

“your friend paid for it, don’t worry,” he slides a few cocktail napkins towards you; they’re in a neat pile, all stacked up in what you assume is the order in which to read them. “he told me to give this to you too. i haven’t read it, but he sure used a lot of napkins.”

dainsleif writes in a neat cursive even if he’s in a rush. this time, it seems he has chosen to use a pen with navy blue ink. how did he know you would be coming to angel’s share today? either way, the first note writes your name in big letters, labelling the rest of pile as yours. the rest of the notes read:

“i apologize for not visiting you in mondstadt as often as i usually do. you see, i’ve recently discovered more information about the nation of khaenri’ah so i am actively pursuing those leads. i hope you may accept this drink as a parting gift. please take care of yourself while you wait for my return. stay safe.

dain.”

you can recognize albedo’s handwriting from a mile away. it’s just the right balance of messy and neat— an equilibrium, if you will. he always writes in pencil, always the same brand and always the same thickness of lead. it is familiar to him, the way it smoothly glides over the pages whether it be writing or sketching something out. and he must have used the same pencil this time, too, on the note you find neatly placed on your desk. it’s a piece of an empty page on his sketchbook; the paper is blank other than his writing. it’s lineless, but he’s still able to write his words in a straight line. besides the letter is a small glass bowl of candies. how thoughtful. the letter reads:

“i’ve noticed you’ve been feeling down lately. if you’d like to talk about what’s on your mind, i’m all ears. in the meantime, i’ve left you a few of my favourite sweets to eat. regulating an optimal level of blood sugar helps a lot, and not just regarding work. when both physical and mental capacity are spent, high-energy materials provide a highly effective boost.

though.. do remember to drink some water afterwards. and if you haven’t yet, go have something to eat. if you’d like to share a meal together, you can find me at the alchemy workshop in mondstadt. putting your health as first priority is the most important factor to benefit your life.

it’s a scrap of lined paper you find at the bottom of your bag. the writing is messy, just a scribble of ink before you examine it closely, and it reads:

“hey comrade! sorry i haven’t been in contact for a while”— in brackets, he writes “harbinger duties!” next to it— “but once i’ve run all my errands, let’s go get something to eat together! maybe you could help me master how to use chopsticks? you don’t have to give a response now, i’ll tell you when i’m free, ok?”

there isn’t a signature or anything, but you already knew who it’s from just by reading the first two words. now, how did he slip this into your bag without you realizing it?

zhongli.

the letter itself is inside a plain paper envelope, locked behind a wax seal. is this the logo of the wangsheng funeral parlour? nevermind that, because the paper is clearly one of high quality; it has a smooth surface and just thick enough so that you can barely see the ghosting on the other side. his pen of choice compliments his perfect-cursive handwriting, with the curves of each letter and the sharp ‘swoop’ at the end of every word. it reads:

“i apologize for a letter out of the blue, but i wrote this when inspiration struck so i hope you may forgive me.

walking through the city at the end of my day allows me to reminisce a little about the past. today, in particular, a quaint shop caught my eye and so i ventured in. upon my inspection i realized this was a place from where i could buy stationary. did you know a shop like this exists in liyue? perhaps we could visit it together someday. the shopkeeper told me most of the products they sold were imported from other nations. in the end, i decided to purchase a fountain pen, imported from fontaine. it is magnificently crafted— a shining gold nib that is nothing but a pleasure to work with. would something from this shop interest you? i personally would love to tell you the background of writing through this letter— anything ranging from stories, poetry, or song— but i must keep it brief until we can meet face-to-face and talk in-depth.

i hope you take good care of yourself and your health. when you join me again for a stroll, do remind me to bring you here. and do not worry about the mora; it will be on me, i promise.

you find the letter beside what looks like a bottle of.. skincare product? the letter is a small, cream-coloured page ripped out from a notebook and neatly folded in half to fit inside the inconspicuous box you found at your doorstep. it reads:

“comrade, today i noticed the scars you got from our previous sparring sessions! while i tend to wear them like medals, sometimes they heal in an unsightly way, so this is a bottle of ointment from snezhnaya that i frequently use to treat my wounds. i hope it works out well for you. if you need any more, ask for some at the northland bank and i’ll be happy to provide you with it! take care of yourself, comrade.”

his words of comfort are.. awkward at worst, but at least he’s trying, no?

“today was fun,” ganyu’s lips curl up into a small smile. she gazes at you with a fond look in her eyes from where she stands in front of the grand double doors of the yuehai pavilion. with her hands clasped neatly in front of her lap, she continues, “it’s hard to find a break from work sometimes, so thank you for coming to visit me.”

you promise her that you will make time to come back again soon, and just when you’re about to turn around and walk home, ganyu suddenly perks up with widened eyes and a gasp.

“ah— wait here, i’ve forgotten something!” she shouts, rushing inside the building.

after a few moments, she returns and hurriedly descends down the steps to hand you a glaze lily with a rolled up sheet of paper tied neatly to the stem. “please read it when you get home,” she murmurs and wastes no time scurrying back inside the yuehai pavilion, disappearing before your eyes could process what’s going on.

so, you get home and inspect the gift closely. it’s a simple sheet of cream-coloured paper, rolled up neatly and tied to the stem of a gorgeous glaze lily in full bloom. the ribbon is made of high-quality fabric, dyed a brilliant shade of sky blue. you unravel the letter easily; it reads:

“i really must thank you for spending time with me today. my mind is always focused on work, so i always feel the greatest sense of relief when i am allowed to de-stress. especially with you! i find myself much happier when you’re around. to show my appreciation, here’s one of the glaze lilies i picked recently. glaze lilies have a really pleasant smell, so i hope this one brings a smile to your face on windy days when the scent is scattered in the air.

it’s a bit embarrassing to be writing this out, but.. i was originally going to gift you a qingxin flower, but unfortunately, i ate them all. i’m sorry! though, i’ve written down a list below that includes pointers on caring for glaze lilies. i hope they help!

you can’t help but think that the way he slipped an icy blue piece of cardstock— folded in half, of course— under your door is very... chongyun-like of him. other than the colour, there is nothing that’s special about the paper itself.

his writing is the right balance between messy and neat— legible, but a bit of a mess at first glance. of course, the cardstock is lineless, so you can’t help but laugh seeing how his sentences tilt downwards as they continue. his letter reads:

“i noticed you were having a bad day today. i am always trying to keep my emotions stable, but sometimes i can’t help but notice other people’s feelings and feel the urge to keep their emotions stable as well. i hope that didn’t come out wrong, now that i realize how i worded it.

what has gotten you in a bad mood? did xingqiu pull a mean prank on you too? come to me and we can form a “victims of xingqiu” alliance together.

you recognize the bird’s cry easily. your head tilts to watch the skies and you spot it; the white underbelly, framed by its oak brown wings. the moment you raise your elbow up, diluc’s hawk lands easily on your forearm. its talons curl tightly around your limb, and yet it leans into your touch when you lift your hand to gently pet its beak.

“pretty bird,” you coo as you easily untie the message on its foot. you pocket the familiar red ribbon— you must have a hundred of those by now— and read the scrap of paper:

“have you been well? i’ve personally been too busy doing paperwork at the dawn winery. the next time you pass by, do come in and say hello and i’ll have the freshest apple cider prepared for you. do tell me about your ventures as well, i’d be glad to hear them.”
