New Body Makeover: Week 1 Recipe Fails
As some of you may know, I have been trying to improve my diet and start exercising by following the Blogilates New Body Makeover plan. Unfortunately, I'm also a pretty picky eater. These are some of the recipes I tried and, quite honestly, hated.
*Note: I already talked about two breakfast recipes here and here, if you're interested.
Turkey, Spinach, & Red Pepper Wrap
I've never been a fan of deli meats. I don't know why, but they freak me out! I did give this a try, and was surprised to discover that red peppers are sweet. I still don't like having chunks of pepper or onion in my food. But at least I learned something.
I did find myself enjoying the La Tortilla Whole Wheat Low-Carb Tortillas! They are such a healthy alternative to bread. As a substitute for the turkey wraps, I've been having peanut butter wraps on the tortillas with a small spinach side salad.
Quinoa Edamame Salad Recipe (recipe found here)
The salad itself was dull. I'm not a fan of the texture of beans, so I didn't like the edamame. The quinoa has a strange nutty flavor with a bad aftertaste. As for the cherry tomatoes, I quite simply am not a tomato fan.
Now, the dressing is where this recipe started to go downhill. I don't like mustard, and that flavor was very apparent in the dressing. Also, the lemon juice made it ridiculously tart. I could barely swallow my little bite!
Vanilla Whey Protein Powder Shake
Following the directions on the container, I tried making myself one of these protein shakes. It has an odd aftertaste, and was terrible at room temperature! I prefer my shakes to be cold.
Instead of trying to drink these shakes, I've come up with an alternative shake recipe. I have a hard time getting nutrients due to my picky eating habits. So I have been making myself Ensure shakes! Simply take an original Ensure in the flavor of your choice, and blend it with some low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt. I use the chocolate flavored Ensure, and I blend it with Publix's low-fat French Vanilla frozen yogurt. (I'm sorry to all the non-Southern people, who don't have access to the amazing-ness that is Publix).
Almond butter was recommended for use with apples and such. It tastes just like almonds. But it is so weird to have that taste in that texture. I've decided to just stick with peanut butter from now on.
Ultra Clean Meatballs (recipe found here)
Again, I'm not a fan of the chunks of onion and peppers. I tried making a second helping of these with just the spices, but still didn't enjoy them. The ground chicken just is too chewy and weird for me!
I like sweets. But sweet potatoes are so freaking sweet! I can't do it. I've been having a regular baked potato instead.
Chicken & Veggies Over Spaghetti Squash, With Raw Marinara Sauce
In this recipe, I baked the chicken with zucchini. The zucchini seamed to release a flavor that was actually very yummy on the chicken! I didn't like the squash instead of noodles. I also wasn't a huge fan of the marinara sauce, but that's simply because I'm not a big fan of marinara in general.
It tasted like cardboard, with a bad aftertaste. I'm eating pistachios instead. But really, how do people eat that?!
I actually liked the pineapple flavor, but I'm very anti-pulp when it comes to eating fruit. I just decided to eat some delicious Georgia peaches instead!
Almond Butter & Banana Smoothie
I tried making this smoothie, and just hated that almond butter taste again. Then I made it with peanut butter instead. I discovered that I don't like to drink my peanut butter.
I have tried hummus before, and just didn't enjoy it. I used to like carrots when I was younger, but I seem to have developed a distaste for them. It's unfortunate, since I literally have no vegetables that I am fine with eating!
All Natural Banana Ice Cream (recipe found here)
Y'all, this is the coolest recipe! The frozen banana genuinely blends into a fro-yo texture. I was amazed. I'm not a fan of banana ice cream, so I just ate a banana instead. But this was such an easy and fun recipe to make!
