⚓SAILORS' REST⚓ Idira picked her way across the shell studded sand dunes toward her father's lighthouse bungalow. The roar of the ocean drowned out the chattering of her teeth and her legs were too numb from the stiff wind to feel the seagrass lashing at her legs. Once on the beach, Idira sprinted across the wet sandbar that connected the rocky spire of Sailors' Rest to the mainland.  She dashed up the hand carved steps, through the tiny garden, to front door of the bungalow at the base of the lighthouse. She raised a frozen hand to knock just as the door flew open. "Idira?" her father gaped at her. His high bronze cheeks and sandy curls made him look more like an overgrown cherub than an almighty heir to fearsome powers.  "Pop, it's cold," Idira squealed and  danced on the doorstep. "Let me in!"  "Did your mother send you?" he asked, leaning out the door as Idira scurried inside. "No," she said from the comfort of the wide hearth. The fireplace was made of the stones hewn from the stairs. ⛲THE SALORIO⛲ Idira turned on her heel and stormed out of the office. The gathered staff parted to let her pass. White hot rage threatened to blind her, but she managed to stumble to her family's private pools. This was the original grotto from which all the other man-made baths in the spa were filled. The warm spring bubbled up into a shallow bowl that spilled into a widemouth clay pipe.  The walls of the grotto wept into a natural pool that the original settlers of Brently used to cure their aliments. She stripped and flung herself into the clear water. The rage melted away as did all her fear and anxiety about the break-in and the doppleganger. There was definitely something in these waters! 🌲THADDEUS 🌲 "Good morning," Thaddeus kissed her as she tried to put on her seatbelt. He smelled of wood shavings, lavender, and ash. The scent made her weak with anticipation. She moaned and he pulled away. He gave her a grin and drove away from the lodge.  "Ready for an adventure?" he asked as they headed deeper into the forest.  "Not in the least," she said looking down at the leggings and sweater she'd chosen for the day. "That's the best time to go!" he smiled.  "Oh mercy," she giggled, "do we at least have snacks?"  "Of course!" he said brightly pointing his thumb over his shoulder. The bed of the truck held three grocery bags. "We're headed to the storehouse to pick up more dried mugwort."  "I am my mother's heir," she protested playfully, "I have many duties to fulfill. I can't just spend my day galavanting with you."  "There is more than one way to fulfill your duties," he said and gave her a smoldering look.
