To get this effect, I 3D tracked some raw footage I shot with my iphone. I did this in after effects using the built in 3d camera tracker. If you don't know how to do that, here's a tutorial. 

Here's the raw footage I was working with:

Export this to c4d using the exchange plugins included with that. Open up that camera data inside C4d.

I put the camera into a null object so that I could add either rotate the camera or add secondary camera motion like pushes or slides while incorporating the tracked camera movements to the shot.

Build your scene up and make sure that it sits properly framed and scaled for the camera movement you have created.

This is definitely where that null comes in handy. In this particular clip, I then rendered out my frames from C4d, and reimported them into my after effects project.

This was super nice because in After effects, all of my frames matched up perfectly with the Camera Tracking data I created the motion from (makes sense, obviously). But what I can do is then add things like light streaks and atmospheric particles in post production to cut down on high render times in C4d. Beautiful.

Again, add some sound design to it. I think it really bumps an animation from "getting" that it's supposed to be a cave, to actually kind of "feeling" like it's a cave. This one, I think I used 3 sound effects. A person walking on a gravel path (added a bit of reverb as one would hear in a cave), added some reverberated dripping sounds, and a low atmospheric hum for a slight underground ambiance.

Recreating slow motion & water in After Effects

We needed to know if we could get decent results shooting on a Canon 5D in 60FPS of a dog shaking off. Another #motiontestmonday  How-to by Fred Kennedy

Original Footage Slowed down from 60fps to super slow motion using the built in time warp effect in AE.

Found a clip of some dude splashing water balloons on himself over a black backdrop in slow motion (the things I do….)

Keyed out the slow motion water and slowed it down even more using time warp to create a number of different splash elements.

Composited those on top of the slow motion wet dog footage and puppet tooled them to look as though they had a bit of motion to them (as if the water was slipping off the dogs fur as it whipped back and fourth.) Added some blurred out in the background as well as some smaller crisp ones where they worked a bit better.

Created an overlay that looked like water had hit the camera lens. I used some slow motion water footage of a splash of water to create a displacement map that warped the scene a bit (as a water drop's refraction would do.)

Add lens flare/slight camera move to give it a bit more life and hide some of the fact that this dog is actually not that wet. Slap on some summer music on top, and go home.
