One year ago, I posted a 3 page side-comic for Space Penguin #1, showing a less than magical Christmas Morning (You can read that here), and in that time there hasn’t been another SP comic released. I’m sorry for that…well, I know it’s not particularly important to people, but I’ve been working on/promising a proper Issue #1 for some time, and it has yet to materialise. Has progress been made since this time last year? Hell yes, the 1st Issue has been planned out in full, and actual production of the full thing is well under way, and…without wishing to make more empty promises, I’m hoping to release it in early 2016…it ain’t going to be January, but if I finally get out of my slump and get cracking on it? It won’t take me that much longer.

THAT SAID, it’s Christmas, and I love to do something special for you guys in the spirit of the season, so I present to you (Although you’ve probably already read it, considering this is below the comic) another side-comic, this time a prequel…entitled ‘Holding Out’. For what, you may ask? Why, a hero of course. The point of this comic, beyond providing another extra little SP morsel for you guys, and also getting my ass in gear to making comic pages? The properly introduce the character of Finch before his first appearance in #1. In fact both this comic, and last year’s short one will tie directly into the time line of Issue #1, so when the final thing releases next year, all these little puzzle pieces will slot into a larger narrative and give you some ‘extra oomph’, which is the technical term of being useless and not releasing a proper Issue in over 2 years.

My goal with this one compared to last years was to create a lengthier, meatier and more action packed short, compared to the small-scale table discussion of ‘Christmas Morning’. Whereas that one was designed to be easily drawable within a small time frame, I went and upped the ante for 2015′s short…but with the same, if not shorter time line to release it on Christmas Week. As such…I literally finished this comic about 5 hours ago, and it’s a bit rough around the edges, but I think it provides a suitable introduction to a new face in the SP world, and also makes for a more interesting visual sequence than last years. So, yeah, it ain’t gonna win any awards, but I planned and made this whole thing within the last couple weeks, it stressed me out and almost didn’t make it, but…here it is!
