Yooo this is my entry for @pistachiolan‘s wtiys! You can find the info here.
Characters: Deceit, Remus, Narcis, Virgil, Patton, Logan and Roman (And Thomas, kind of) They’re all kids.
Warning(s): None I can think of, tell me if I need to add anything!
Summary: Our little hero Virgil has started his journey with the three kids known throughout the whole region as the first ones to ever befriend the three Guardians of the Lake and let them follow them. They were teaching Virgil the basics of Pokémon training, when a new Team appeared in their path. Let the battle begin!
A/N: Team Others at its beginning, the three kids still have to master their introduction though heh. I had so many ideas for this but it would've become too long to write entirely, so get this fic in medias res! So many mysteries, will our protagonists be able to discover them all?
❝ Every challenge along the way with courage I will face
I will battle everyday to claim my rightful place. ❞
« Oh, look who we have here. »
Virgil had begun his journey with his newest friends for a few days. They were on the verge of catching a Primarina when sudden voices disrupted their peace behind them. They turned to see two boys standing and a third one sitting in a Meowth costume.
« If it isn't the famous little big three. » one of the two boys focused on Virgil. « And a newcomer. »
« Who are you? » Roman was already on his feet in a fighting stance, a hand ghosting over his pokéball.
« Name's Remus! » the kid in black and green clothing proclaimed, pointing to himself with his thumb, a smirk crossing his face mischievously.
« I'm Deceit. » the one in black and yellow asserted, standing proudly.
« And Meowth, whatever, something. » the third kid mused, definitely not as excited, promptly lying down on the ground.
« We're Team Others and we won't leave until that Primarina is ours! »
« That was ... » Logan started, unable to find a fitting word.
« Your last chance to strike! » Roman wore a smug look.
« Wait, Ro- » Patton tried, immediately cut off.
The overly dramatic kid threw his pokéball. « Go, Azelf! »
The two opponents simply snickered, then Deceit nodded at Remus, who let his own Pokémon out.
It was a majestic Darkrai. Roman's face fell.
What was a kid doing with a legendary Pokémon?
Logan and Patton came to Roman's side, shielding their younger friend. « Stay behind, Virgil. »
In a moment, Azelf was assisted by Uxie and Mesprit.
« Took you long enough. » Deceit's turn came to let his Seviper join the battle.
A faint "Can I leave? I dressed up and did everything you told me, can I finally sleep again?" was heard and subsequently ignored by the other two of the Team.
Virgil took the opportunity to approach Primarina, which was half immersed in the river they were nearby. It seemed to tilt its head in confusion, staring at the battle from a distance.
« Don't worry, I got you. » Virgil looked at a pokéball they had given him. Now, that was tough. How did it work?
« Prir- Primm- No- Gosh, your name is difficult. How about a nickname? » Primarina seemed excited about it. « Mh ... Thomas? A human name that I like. » the Pokémon was so pleased it sang a melody to the tune.
« Good, then ... » Virgil held the pokéball higher, uncertain.
How could such a child catch a creature so stunn-
Primarina smiled and hit the pokéball with its head, joyful to become part of his crew.
Virgil beamed, but it didn't last, as he turned to see his friends weren't doing too well: Darkrai's immunity to psycho moves rendered them weak against it and it could help Seviper's vulnerability.
« Azelf! » Roman came to his fainted Pokémon's side, trying to motivate it in vain.
« Mesprit, » Patton, unsure of his choice as Logan tried to keep up with both Remus and Deceit surprisingly well, called for its attention when he noticed Azelf's condition. « Use Healing Wish. »
« What?! » Roman's widened eyes met with the figure of Mesprit falling to the ground, all its health delivered to Azelf, who got almost immediately back into battle.
« No! » Seviper fell to the ground after Uxie's unsuspected attack thanks to Future Sight. Deceit knelt down and passed a hand on its head. « I apologize, go back. » he murmured, holding his pokéball close.
It was a last match between a powerful Darkrai and two almost defeated Guardians of the lake. Easy.
Were they to lose, Primarina would have been lost to the Team.
Virgil started fearing the worst. Which led to Banette appearing next to him. In disbelief, he called after it, but Banette had a goal in mind.
It stopped in front of Uxie and Azelf, facing Darkrai.
« Virgil ... » Logan called out, sensing what was about to happen.
Then, a light came and, in an instant, Banette was no longer in their presence: instead, it had evolved into Megabanette.
Virgil gasped and rushed behind it, next to Roman and Logan, while he left Primarina to Patton.
Silence, as they all basked in Megabanette's eerie aura.
Deceit locked eyes with it. « Rem. » he looked like, during that stare, he had understood some sort of secret. « Let's go. »
« Withdraw your Darkrai. » he wouldn't tear off his gaze, still held by the Pokémon.
« It's okay. We don't need it. » his tone changed, like something had clicked. Like something had broken.
Just like that, they retreated without another word, except for Remus calling his only faithful Pokémon back to him.
« I ... have so many questions. »
Their eyes fell on the third member of the party, still lying on the ground like he had become one with the grass. « What? Shoo, I'm not available and kinda busy doing nothing here. »
« Yep, » Roman repeated. « So many questions. »
As he then scolded Patton for using such a reckless move earlier, Virgil's mind went back to Deceit's expression at Megabanette.
Did he know about them? But most importantly, he thought as the others cheered for their new companion, did someone as sorrowful as Banette just save them?
He let his thoughts wander as his friends made their way to the Pokémon Centre.
So their journey continued with their new Primarina-Thomas, aware of the existence of a new team their age and that it wasn't going to be their last meeting.
For sure ... they held secrets.
And they were going to become more powerful.
