The simplistic gameplay of Jump King is belied by the sheer difficulty of ascending through each of its screens, but this simplicity is underlined by a focus on intuitive imprecision. While exceedingly difficult, the imprecision associated with each jump, the height and distance of which is determined by how long the player holds the jump button before releasing it, is designed to slowly become easier to understand point by point. This is further marked by the fact the game frequently has the player, upon failing a jump, to fall back down to prior screens, ensuring they get significant practice with the basics of the mechanic following each failure.
