Scorpius can’t sleep, Albus can’t sleep, and both boys just need some recognition that they are loved and cared about because sometimes, at two in the morning, it’s hard to remember that you’re not alone.
Stranger: [2am] You awake?-SM
You: Define awake. AP
Stranger: Can you talk at me for a bit? About anything, I don't care-SM
You: Yeah, sure. You okay? AP
Stranger: [...] Uhm....no, not really-SM
You: What's wrong? AP
Stranger: Uhm, just.....stressing, you know-SM
It's kind of stupid. Dad has this stupid chest cold and I know he'll be fine but he keeps waking up in the middle of the night coughing, and he's tired all the time and I know he'll be fine I know it's okay but I can't help but worry about it-SM
And I'm just really tired but I can't go to sleep-SM
You: Your dad will be okay. Colds take a lot out of people. All you can do is be there for him when he asks for help, you know? AP
Whenever I'm tired but can't fall asleep, I get up and do one thing that needs to be done, and then I lay down again. It helps, sometimes. AP
Stranger: No, I've tried that. I redid my room, but my head keeps spinning-SM
You: Have you talked to your dad? If he's awake because of the coughing anyways, you could try to talk to him. It might help the worry? AP
Stranger: He told me I can't keep busting into his room every time he coughs-SM
Stranger: He told me to get some sleep, so I'm trying. But it's not working-SM
You: It's hard to make your brain turn off, sometimes. Is there anything else you can think of that might work to help you? AP
Stranger: [...] I don't know. I just thought talking to you could help-SM
You: Then I'm here to talk. AP
Stranger: You're really the greatest-SM
[...] I just keep thinking of mom, I can't stop-SM
You: [...] Do you want to talk about it? About... her? Because you can. I'm here for you. To listen. AP
It's okay if you don't want to, too. But I know it's been difficult. AP
Stranger: It's just....when it first started to get bad, I wasn't allowed in their room. And I could hear her, and I could hear Dad, and she got so bad so fast. And I still wasn't supposed to see, but I snuck in. And then it was just dad and I, and it's okay, I love my dad, but....-SM
Now he's getting pale and he has bags under his eyes like she did, and he's kicking me out of that room again, and I know it's just a cold I listened to the healer but....but what if it isn't? And I can't go to sleep without dreaming of her, and it just makes it worse-SM
You: It's okay to be scared, Scorp. AP
I think your mum would tell you that, too. For now, all you can do is let the Healers do their jobs with your dad and hope that they're right. If it was something worse, they would tell you. They would have to. AP
Are the dreams bad? AP
Stranger: They don't have to do anything, it's dad who pays them. He could pay them more to lie if it was really bad. He doesn't want me to worry like I do, but I can't help it-SM
They don't really start bad, no. But then it goes back to when she was sick and....-SM
You: Your dad wouldn't do that to you. If there was something going on, he would tell you. He cares too much about you to leave you in the dark like that. AP
And then they get bad. AP
Have you talked to any Healers? If you're having trouble sleeping, there are potions you can get. My dad has to use them, sometimes. AP
Stranger: Really?-SM
But I don't want to bug them. They'll tell my dad and then he'll be even more worried about me-SM
You: But he already knows you're not sleeping very well, right? So it's not something new for him to worry about. AP
And if it will help you, your dad would want you to speak to him. AP
Stranger: [...] He needs to rest. He needs all the rest he can get-SM
Maybe I'll talk to the healers tomorrow. I sent a letter to have them here today-SM
You: I think you should. I worry about you, you know. AP
Stranger: Please don't-SM
I don't need more people worrying about me-SM
You: You're the one who worries about everyone. It's only fair that you get worried about, too. AP
You deserve to sleep at night, and to at least have a little bit of time where you don't have to worry about everyone else. AP
Stranger: [...] But you don't have to worry about me-SM
You: You're my best friend. Maybe I don't have to worry, but I want to. AP
I mean, I don't WANT to, but if there's something going on, I'm going to. AP
Does that make sense? AP
Stranger: Yeah, yeah. I know how worrying goes-SM
But I'm already making you miss sleep over this-SM
You: I was already awake, Scorp. AP
You're not making me miss sleep. AP
Stranger: What were you doing up?-SM
You: Thinking. AP
Stranger: About?-SM
You: Everything? AP
I don't know. Dad was trying to talk to me earlier about the whole... rest of my life thing. AP
So I was just thinking about it, I guess. AP
Stranger: The rest of your life?-SM
that's stressful-SM
You: Tell me about it. AP
Stranger: Did you come to any conclusions?-SM
You: Only that I have no idea what I'm going to do. AP
In conclusion... I have no conclusion. AP
Stranger: Ah-SM
You: Dad won't be too happy about that one, but I don't really care. AP
Stranger: You still have time-SM
You: Yeah. I guess. AP
He's got all these expectations for me. It's so weird. He pins everything on me because Lily is the baby and James is... James. AP
Ugh. AP
Stranger: Tell him to fuck off. He might have been great, but you just have to be what you are-SM
You: I wish I could tell him to fuck off. AP
I'm just going to have to ignore it. At least, until I figure something out to tell him. AP
Stranger: Tell him you want to take a gap year, visit your uncle and the dragons-SM
You: Somehow, I don't think that's what he wants to hear either. AP
Honestly, though? I don't care what he thinks anymore. AP
Stranger: Good. Don't-SM
You: It's not worth it. AP
My point was, though, that you aren't keeping me up. AP
Stranger: Well, thanks-SM
And I'm sorry about your dad-SM
You: It's okay. I'm learning to accept it. AP
Stranger: He tries, I know it's not much, but he does-SM
You: I know. Things were just really different for him. AP
Stranger: I know. My dad tries to make sure my life is nothing like his was too-SM
Stranger: Though we live in the same damn house so...-SM
You: I guess it doesn't really help, huh. AP
We should do something. I still want to come stay with you at some point. It would be nice to see you. AP
Stranger: So let's get a place together?-SM
You: Are you serious? AP
Because that would be brilliant. AP
Stranger: Why would lie about that? It'd be great-SM
You: I think we should do it. AP
Stranger: I'd love to, honestly-SM
You: There has to be a place somewhere that's not too much to rent. AP
Stranger: I'll ask dad if he can help us find some place-SM
When he's better-SM
You: That would be amazing. AP
Stranger: We'll figure it out-SM
You: You really think your dad will help us find a place? AP
Stranger: Of course he will. He loves you-SM
You: I think I'm shaking a little. I'm really excited about this. AP
Stranger: I am too-SM
It'll be fantastic-SM
You: Thank you. For bringing it up. AP
Stranger: Of course!-SM
You: You think you can get some sleep now? It's almost three, and you should at least give it another shot. AP
VICTOIRE WEASLEY is twenty-four years old, working as a journalist at THE DAILY PROPHET, and is a WATER elemental, formerly in the house SLYTHERIN.
❝ People who have no vices have very few virtues.
↳ Magic
Victoire could probably walk on water barefoot and dance between the waves without being splashed if she worked more on her elemental magic. It’s a natural calling, for veelas have always had an affinity for water and it is her mother’s side of the family’s greatest magical legacy that no other kid in the family but her has inherited. Having grown on a beach did make the smell of salt and the sound of the waves feel like home to her, so when the blonde started her courses at Hogwarts, magic shone in her like a gem and every competent professor agreed that she had a true gift. Howsoever, lately, she doesn’t practice one bit anymore and even her natural affinity goes dry when ignored. She can perform the easy tricks, but in order to return to the trained state she was in when she graduated, she would need intense practice once again, which is not something she cares too much about anymore.
↳ BACKSTORY
The first thing Victoire excelled at was being a perfect little daughter, with golden locks and a smile for days, using it in such an angelic way that even her mother, aware of the same tricks and too familiar with them, let herself be fooled. Out of her siblings, Victoire mastered the best the art of being exactly what people wanted her to be until her graduation, at least. Fleur and Bill don’t know Victoire and for that, they love her. Howsoever, Victoire now grew independent of her parents and although it is attention she feeds on, she doesn’t need theirs anymore. She cares deeply about them, but her family needs to understand that she has concerns of other nature at her age and that she isn’t one more chair at the dinner table on holidays anymore. Her priorities don’t lie with them anymore, and as much as she feels guilty to be considering all of the Weasley clan a chore and burden, she expects them to allow her to run loose and live her life the way she wants it, which doesn’t include the seasonal visit of grandma and grandpa. She just doesn’t see the point in keeping close to them when they have nothing of importance to talk about and family activities are just a waste of time as far as she is concerned. She’d bite off every connection she has with her family, as harsh as it seems and as much as she can love them at times. There’s something in her chest that screams for freedom and complete detachment.
After daughter, Victoire has learned to be good at being so many other things: part veela, Quidditch extraordinaire and Seeker for the Slytherins, top student to the point where it was unfair, Prefect for a year until it has been decided that she was too agitated and social for the part. Her school years she remembers fondly, because everything went like clockwork, following her and orbiting around her. Success turned her harsh and sharp, but most of all, it gave her expectations she would never see fulfilled again. Nothing ever topped the feeling of school popularity and the attention a bunch of charmed teenagers gave her until she turned eighteen, as attractive and interesting she still tries to be. Perhaps because of a wrong choice in career, she turned from the star of her generation into a coffee girl, and even that had required effort and her betraying her family. The evolution of Victoire Weasley took an unpleasant turn for her, and she minds too much to let it slide at the same time as refusing to acknowledge failure out loud, fighting more and more to touch the moon again. All her life, when she had set her mind on something, getting it done followed almost instantly, and she arrogantly doesn’t expect her career to evolve differently. Though at the moment, the only reason why she has a boss she still brings coffee to is her family name - but not in the way one would think - she plans on receiving a promotion and getting under Rita Skeeter’s skin soon enough, though, in reality, she isn’t even fairly close to that stage. She’s never been. She’ll never be on principle, because Rita hates the Weasleys, making her resent them too.
Frankly, Victoire isn’t a good writer and she knows it; she even made peace with it and is willing to only pretend to be as good of a journalist as she was on the Quidditch pitch, as a seeker, or in her studies for the others and so she wouldn’t admit that she made a mistake about the path she has chosen. As long as she manages to climb to the top, she doesn’t how much she deserves it. And slowly but through hard work, ambition and no shadow of talent, she is becoming bigger and more noticeable, which makes her feel empty as well as it pleases her for different reasons. She could have deserved it if she chose anything else to do with her life, but it’s too late and misery became a general state that she doesn’t fight anymore. She’s trying to work with the misery and make it her slave.
Victoire Weasley isn’t a femme fatale with sharp claws and cruelty dripping from her icy eyes. She may appear as one - in fact, she is struggling to give off that vibe, but it is only because she knows that it is the only form of self preservation that still works and desperately wants to become it. Though appearing overconfident in herself and everything she does or says, Victoire finds herself needing the others’ validation, and even though she hates being dependent on the world’s opinion on her, the most she can do is pretend not to care and fake unbreakable self-esteem. She isn’t independent, assertive and powerful, but, then again, Victoire Weasley has always wanted every quality in the world to be hers. She has always wanted to be everything: powerful, desirable, intelligent, rational and talented. For that and a stubbornness that refuses to die, she’s stuck being mediocre in a field she doesn’t even fully like anymore. Even though she never, for one moment, intended to do anything that involves strong magic, she spent her years at Hogwarts practicing her elemental powers as well. She hardly ever uses it, but just knowing that she could is a heartwarming feeling without which she would feel vulnerable and weak - that being her biggest nightmare.
Slowly raising to the top but feeling like constantly sinking deeper, the blonde Weasley is trying desperately to find a balance long lost and the fear of never getting it back and watching all that potential drain from her cheeks paralyzes her. More than ever, she feels like wasting her life and she fears that it’s too late to turn back, because she is not nineteen anymore, although even more lost than when she was a teenager.
