It’s a great establishing shot for why the Diaspora is a weird, fucked-up state to be a part of, and what exactly was the special spice that went wrong there vs OriCon’s grungy mixed economy-mediocrity and Apostolos’s, uh, Apostolos. All these horrible larger-than-life personalities doing their level best to channel grudgematches of machine gods, except when sometimes the machine gods are being puppeted in the name of your personal dislikes. Governance!

In general I love Addax in the Kingdom Game because his thing with Order is such a persuasive feedback loop—something miserably automated at its limit, also seeded by totally human doubt. And it’s hilarious because Ibex has already had HIS fucking come-to-Jesus “oh wait, I hate being a human sacrifice” moment, except instead of doing anything about it whatsoever, he just embraced the lifelong alibi. The idea of retiring presumably never occurred to him. So I have to imagine that, very infrequently, he looks at Addax and is like…………. >:?
