this kind of functions as mini headcanons :) I have a pretty long playlist, so I'm just pointing out some of the ones that are the most "colston" to me, and explaining why!

There's a few reasons why this song screams Colston to me. The most obvious being that it's pure country, which is so Colston. Colston would actually die to see you in cowboy boots, especially if you weren't inherently country, but that's besides the point.
This screams Colston because I feel like this song would be his mantra in life. If things ever got rocky between the two of you, I don't see him as a "grand gestures" guy. In terms of how he resolves any potential issues between the two of you, he brings it down to the basics.
Especially if the two of you had been together before the NFL, before the bright city lights of Chicago. He makes a pointed effort to have honest conversations with you, trying to get to the root of the issue. He listens intently, never speaking over you, never diminishing your concerns or trying to demean your emotions. He calls you by your name, never a pet name, and treats you with the utmost respect. He never tries to touch you or kiss you to try to sway you. He wants the issue to be resolved with honest conversations, both of your concerns being heard, and your relationship coming out stronger at the end.
Shortly after everything is resolved, when things are better for the two of you, when the icy atmosphere in the house is gone, then Colston goes for a gesture. A beautiful necklace, a gigantic flower bouquet, a purse you've had your eyes on, something tangible to really tie the bow on the issue. Colston always waits until the conflict is fully resolved, as he never wants you to feel like he's trying to buy your forgiveness. That isn't even his intention. He is simply hardwired to spoil his girl, especially after a conflict or a hard day.

To me, this screams Colston's wedding song. This is one of my favorite love songs of all time, it's so simple and soft, but the love is so evident. Colston relates to every single lyric, singing it softly in your ear in the kitchen while making dinner, looking you square in the eyes at a red light as it plays in the car, singing it to you, not allowing even a shadow of a doubt of how he feels.
He often looks at you and breaks out into the giddiest smile, genuinely believing he's the luckiest man alive. He finds himself pinching himself while he looks at you, thanking God after date nights, sneaking kisses any chance he gets, genuinely overflowing with love for you. When he sees you dressed up, looking at him from the other side of the dinner date table, across the center console, across a crowded room, even when you're up in the family suite at a game, he spots you immediately, breaking out into a blush, doing your signature sign when you spot each other (holding his hands up in a heart and then touching his chest, leaving you no doubt of where you belong in his life).
He never stops feeling lucky, even when you've been married a while, even if kids come into the picture, he continues to feel like the luckiest man alive, and treating you like the biggest prize he could've ever won.

This one may be self indulgent, but I feel like Colston would be the most patient partner, especially if you've been hurt in the past. Colston would wait a thousand years for you if that's what you needed. If you weren't ready to date after a bad relationship, he'd wait as long as you needed, never pressuring you or rushing you, staying by your side in any way that you need, but never crowding you, never making you feel like he's rushing you to be with him.
If you were hesitant to say I love you back to him, he never faltered. He said it enough that you never felt like he didn't love you, but didn't repeat it incessantly and feeling like you had to say it back. He opted to show you he loves you, continuously showing up for you and doing everything he could for until you felt comfortable and safe enough to say it back. It's the happiest day of his life when you say it back for the first time.
If you struggle with physical touch, he is completely understanding. He shows you he loves you every way he can, cherishing the moments when you feel comfortable enough to feel his touch, but also learning to appreciate all of the other unique ways he can show his love for you.
The biggest thing for Colston is making sure you know he's a safe place to land. No matter what you've been through in the past, he needs you to know that you're safe with him, and can rely on him for anything. That his touch is safe, that his words are sacred, that his love comes without conditions, without expectations, without judgment. Whatever you need to feel more comfortable, whether it's sharing locations, texting when he arrives places, always saying I love you back, never going to bed without saying I love you, whatever you need, he's doing it every time without fail, never making you feel like a burden.

This song is so beautiful to me, and it's another one that I feel is so beautifully Colston. When it comes to you, nothing else matters, nothing is more important. Football means nothing when it comes to you. He loves you wholeheartedly, without fail. You are truly the most important thing to him. Everything he does is for you.
There's times when he truly feels he would give up football tomorrow if you asked him to. Of course you never would, but he needs you to know that you're the center of his universe. When it comes to you, football is just a job, just a means of providing for you. It's a way for him to earn money to take care of you, to have you set for life, to make sure you never worry about money or rent or car payments or student loans or anything financial.

Yes, Colston is incredibly respectful about touch, especially if you're not welcoming to it. But I truly feel that Colston's main love language is touch. He is so touchy, needing to have a hand on you at all times. He has different kinds of touch, each with different meanings. Touching you helps regulate him. It helps remind him that you're real, you're safe, that nothing will happen to you when you're in his arms. When he can feel your warm skin, feel your heart beating, feel your hands on him, he's content. He can relax. He finally feels settled.
When he needs comfort, he nuzzles his face in your neck, inhaling your familiar scent, sticking his hands underneath your top, feeling your smooth skin underneath his calloused hands. He always has a hand on you in public, his hand on your waist, his finger hooked in your pant loop, his hand linked in yours, hand brushing your shoulder when you're seated next to each other in a team dinner or on the couch back home in Gooding. Of course, if you're uncomfortable with PDA, he will dial it back, but if you're comfortable with it, he would have his hands on you 24/7.
To him, there's nothing that makes him happier than wrapping his arms around you after a long day, feeling your chest rising and falling, feeling your hands raking through his hair, being as close to him as humanly possible. There's truly nothing he loves more than holding you close after a long day, a rough practice, a long game, win or lose, all he wants is to wrap you in his arms and never let go.

This is so true for Colston. He genuinely feels like being with you is the biggest accomplishment in his life. Of course he'd love to win a Super Bowl, accomplish his personal goals, reach the top of the football mountain. But nothing means more to him than being with you. He'd love to travel the world and see its wonders, but knowing he has you in his life is all that truly matters to him.
To him, the day you get married is the best day of his life, and nothing football related would ever compare. He'd hear from veteran players, retirees, his friends who have played for Super Bowl winning teams that it was the best day of their life, but he knows that that would never be true for him, it'd always be second best. He'd trade his national championship ring for you, and he knows that day will never compare to the day he stood across from you and vowed to never let you go, to love you forever, when he dedicated his life to you.

Speaking of weddings...
Colston genuinely thinks he's gonna pass out when you walk down the aisle. One of his groomsman has to step out of the line and grab him some water to help him calm down after seeing you. As soon as he hears your music play (the instrumental to You Are In Love by Taylor Swift), he immediately starts crying steadily. He's grateful someone gives him a tissue, because he knows he'd never be able to fold his pocket square back to the way it was perfectly folded by his mom before the ceremony.
His hands are sweaty in yours, gripping with a tight grip, hoping you'll never walk away. It's a physical restraint to not hug you in close, to not kiss you. He thinks he might need to turn around and tell Cayden to grip onto his jacket to ensure he behaves for the short ceremony. He can't help it, you're the most beautiful thing he's ever seen, and he knows about the ceremony traditions, the superstitions, but he's also looking at you and thinking, everyone will understand. They see you, they see your beauty, your grace, your charm, and he thinks the guests will understand if he grabs you in his arms and kisses you.
When the officiant finally tells him he can kiss the bride, he kisses you like it's the last thing he'll ever do. He's kissing you like the hours he spent before the ceremony, not being able to kiss and hold you, were genuinely taxing on him, they hurt his heart.

This one is the most fun to me. Colston loves your friends, he's so happy that you have a solid group of friends in Chicago to hang out with, to enjoy adventures with, to keep you company while he's gone, and even when he's home. He misses you when you're gone, but he loves that you have a group of friends to make you happy and to enjoy life with. He always feels that your solid group of friends make your relationship strong, knowing that while the two of you are truly best friends, you also have a group of friends who have your back regardless.
He insists that you host the pregame at his house, grabbing your favorite take out and snacks, mixing drinks and buying your favorite drinks at the store to ensure a fun night out. He also insists on driving everyone, even if he has to take two trips. He'll drive some friends home if he has to, and he always asks to take you home. Before he can ask how you're doing, you text him to let him know that you're in an Uber on your way home, your friend ordered for you as soon as you and your friends decided they were moving on to the club and you were gonna go home, exhausted from the bar and the pregame.
He waits by the door for you, and when he sees the car turning down your street, he walks outside, meeting you as the car parks, opening the door for you and thanking the Uber driver profusely for getting you home safe. He's even given an Uber driver an autograph who asked for one, just genuinely grateful that you made it home safe.
He leads you inside, helping you get out of your shoes and outfit, helping you into one of his t shirts and a baggy pair of shorts. He helps you take your makeup off and fix your hair, listening to your debrief of the night intently, asking questions and chiming in with comments when necessary. He helps you down from the counter after doing your skincare and helping you brush your teeth. If you're in the mood for a shower, he will help you in, insisting on washing your body and your hair if you want that.
And while he's truly happy that you had fun, nothing makes him happier than wrapping you up in his arms after your girls night out, knowing you're safe in his arms.

Colston is so greedy!!!! For someone who travels so much for work, he short circuits when you travel. If you're gone for a work trip, bachelorette party, visiting your friends or family out of state, his heart aches, the other half of him across the country, or even sometimes, out of the country.
He insists on picking you up from the airport and having you stay at his place if you don't live together. He helps you put your things down, unpacking them in your drawers if you live together, making a quick call to your favorite take out and as soon as he hangs up, he's pulling you onto his lap, wrapping you up tight, sneaking kisses like you've been separated for years. He's your safest place to land, your peace, your home.
