#nfts are garbage

In light of Mr. J*son von CoG endorsing NFTs and doubling down on why destroying the environment through cryptocurrency mining is good, actually, I've decided to make the move to release my full game for free on Twine. (And yes, XRP ledgers are terrible too. Suck my dick.)

NFTs are awful point blank. @if-eventhorizon and @northern-passage both have more comprehensive explanations in posts that are definitely worth a read if you have the time.

So! The more important logistical things for my games. Considering I haven't released anything publicly yet, this makes the leap a lot easier for me. For now, I've decided to go ahead and finish what I have planned for the demo on ChoiceScript, while the final product of the game itself will be on Twine.

This will make sure that I won't have to push back the currently planned release dates at all, and give me space to port the game over for a more polished version. Rest assured that everything will come in a timely manner.

A battle pass is like chores but instead of stopping when you're done with them, everything resets and you have to do them again; sometimes, a trinket drops and you get to keep it. You need to complete all the chores several hundred times to get everything on the battle pass. Oh, and the season ends in 4 days and you haven't put in anywhere near the requisite 200 hours to get that Sparkly Neon Green Coat with Monster Energy Logo on It.

And that's just the free ones. Sometimes they make you pay for the privilege of playing a game way past the point of burnout. Even worse, sometimes the paid battle passes are longer, meaning that this game is now another job that you don't get paid for but do have to buy in, not at all dissimilar to a pyramid scheme. You do get more points towards the battle pass if you win a game, so it is technically possible to shorten the amount of time needed to get everything, but even if you're a top player, good luck getting the stars of align so you avoid bad teammates, hackers, connection issues, and people landing lucky shots/ambushes on you.

Sometimes the paid season passes, like the ones in Fortnite, include enough premium currency to come out ahead, which is nice and all, but you still need to play the game for a very long time until you see that return on investment. Speaking of investments (Very poor investments), you can just pay to advance through the battle pass. The battle pass you already paid for. So now you're paying for the privilege of being able to spend money so you can skip playing the game in order to get more premium currency and other stuff so you can do it again next season.

I'm pretty sure NFT bros saw this setup that should only be possible in a libertarian's most deranged fantasies, and figured their time was now. If people are spending millions of dollars to buy-in to something that forces them to play the game for hundreds of hours, why not sell people an entry on a database somewhere that has a link in it that points to a jpeg of a randomly generated but always ugly monkey? Oh, and this database entry took four weeks to make and produced enough pollution that everywhere is now a poison bog. Hope that's okay.
