@ferociousqueak: I like how her fear of being shunned and reviled dovetails so nicely into her core belief that there is good in everyone if you just give it a chance. I can imagine she hopes for people to feel the same toward her :P
She 100% definitely hopes for that. She has a very negative reaction towards people shouting at one another and fighting, and she feels a strong need to step in and disarm the situation because she wishes people would’ve done that for her. Not that she recognises the reason for how she acts, she just knows that if people are fighting she’s gonna break it up. And then they’ll be happy right and so glad she stepped in. Right? Right??
@rogue-lavellan: whats a place she'd like to live at some point?
Niah doesn’t really have any specific place or setting in mind for where she’d like to live in the future. She’s always known the Monastery so mentally that’s ‘home’ for her, but emotionally it’s not and she’d not be sad if she never went back there again. And if it’s taught her anything it’s not somewhere she wants to fashion her own home-base off of. But because that’s all she’s known, she also doesn’t know where she does see herself.
All she knows is she’d like to live somewhere stable and warm and welcoming. Somewhere that finally feels like ‘home’
One more! You may have answered this elsewhere, but how do you pronounce Niah's name? Like knee-yah, nai-yah, kneel?
Knee-yah. Like you’re stressing “near” a little weird
Near. Far. Wherever you are...
What would you say are Niah's core motivating values? What does she hope for? What does she fear most?
She wants to treat others as she wants to be treated. That is to say, well. Without prejudice and malice and any unwarranted negativity. I specify unwarranted because she’s not about to roll over and expose her belly to someone who’d happily rip into it. But she always approaches people with positivity and kindness, and only if it is not reciprocated after many attempts (or a few firm No’s) will she drop that approach and instead give back what she receives.
She also thinks that everyone has good in them, just some people it’s a little harder to see (and some people try their hardest to quash it in themselves) and some don’t want to see it. But it’s there nonetheless and it saddens her when people go out of their way to put out their own and others’ lights.
Honestly, she tends to give people lectures about being nicer whilst she’s punching them in the face (or just before). It’s a beautiful juxtaposition.
Related to that, she does worry that her dealings with such people will rub off on her. Especially because she often has to resort to violence to deal with these people. But if it’s the only language they’ll understand and they won’t stop doing harm...
Unrelated, she also fears being alone. Shunned. Reviled. She has a very fragile sense of self and even more fragile confidence. It wouldn’t take too much to shatter that and she knows it. It’s partly why she appreciates Kaz’s company; he gets just as many weird looks as her and she takes comfort in the fact that he brushes it off so easily and aspires to reach the levels of confidence and ease he has attained. And if she’s with him, she isn’t alone. But she knows their paths part ways as they continue on their journeys and she dreads the day that will come because what if she’s not found anyone else by then? What if she’s back to being alone and stared at and-
If Niah has the chance for a sweet treat, what's her go-to choice?
Croissants. Or any sort of pastry, but she looooves a good croissant. They just fit right in your hand and taste so good and you can put chocolate and all sorts of good things in them to enhance the experience
Gosh, now I want a croissant too
