Top panel as taken from instagram: niall.breen.comics: A private message of love. August 14, 2020
2nd panel:
niall.breen.comics: Out in the Rain. July 20, 2020
These are two panels by Niall Breen (@niall.breen.comics) who posts daily panels on their instagram page. The comic frequently features Frog, Dog, and Bear as they explore what it means to be alive. What makes me consider this a queer comic is that the characters are referred to neutrally- with no gender specified. The characters explore topics like love, creativity, loneliness, and friendship, and are relatable on the basis of the personalities (and cuteness). It is easy to see yourself in any one of them regardless of your gender and sexuality.
Also, the characters Frog and Dog are in a romantic relationship but as Niall Breen said “much of what I show of their life together could totally apply to platonic relationships...I think it's so important to show love to all the people you find dear, no matter the type of relationship. ❤️”.

Update 12/9pm: Juniper and Niall spoke privately, and Juniper said he told her that he has never read CYELATM. She believes it was a misunderstanding and just wants to take responsibility. While I am, as of right now, skeptical about this considering the sheer amount of similarities, I understand that Juniper wants to limit harm to Niall as much as possible and for people to remove posts accusing him of theft. For the moment I’m putting this post behind a read more (I probably should have done that to begin with) and adding this note.
For the record, I don’t regret supporting Juniper and speaking out against the ugliness thrown her way. She shouldn’t have came out on her official social media to accuse him without trying to talk privately, and she’s apologized for doing so. I jumped the gun too in that respect. Intellectual artistic property theft is complex and in a lot of ways impossible to prove, so ultimately we all have to decide if Breen’s explanation is enough.
Juniper’s a wonderful person and CYELATM is such a gift of goodness to the world, and touched a lot of people - she’s had a huge influence over comics in general and on current “internet culture” and people trying to diminish her legacy are jerks! Also, due to the fucked up nature of social media (remember he’s got like 45K followers vs her 7K or something), plus the stress of trying to make a living off of free webcomics, and of course transmisogyny, Juniper’s faced the majority of the damage here. So if you’re a fan whose been upset about the whole situation and feel she acted badly, please consider reading her apologies on her social media accounts before you write her off.
hey all, I updated my last post about Niall Breen with some further info - after apologizing and retracting her accusation of plagiarism earlier today, Juniper’s spoken to him privately and he says he’s never read CYELATM, and she wants to take him at his word. I’m leaving that post up with a note but thought I’d direct people that way as well. I want to respect her wishes though I have my own reservations so I’m going through my various posts and deciding whether to update/delete things.
