two whole weeks in another country for training camp had given niamh a taste of perspective. or maybe more likely a desperation to be back in cassie's orbit. every conversation seemed to only scratch the surface of what needed to be said, but she was feeling a new determination to figure it all out. though, of course, the second cassie opened the door to her place, niamh stood there stunned for a moment, forgetting every speech she'd made up in her head on the twenty-two hour flight. "hey! hi. i'm home. obviously."

without her around, niamh was more susceptible to the alcohol and the distraction of pretty girls who wanted her attention. this one was an influencer or something, she'd been only half listening while they spoke, tucked into the vip booth of the club. she'd been reading their texts, wondering if she was going to swing by or if they'd have another night of not seeing each other. the off season always made her feel antsy, but with everything going on with her best friend it felt worse. she spent more time in the gym, tried to focus on seeing family and relaxing but all she thought about was that quiet conversation they'd had, admitting that they both had feelings for each other. and then subsequently, the mutual, pained agreement to do nothing about it. this was another distraction from that, albeit a foolish one as this girl whose name she didn't even remember pulled her in to a kiss. she got lost in it, slipping deeper until something in her peripheral vision dragged her and then the guilt was written all over her face as she stared back at her best friend. "i didn't know if you were coming out tonight." she said weakly, frozen in her spot.

to say this was a little irresponsible on niamh's part was an understatement, but she wore a grin despite the injury to her ankle and the fact that she had no idea how bad it was. they were inside the medical room of the stadium, ellis across the room. "i'll let you treat me if you finally let me take you on a date." she stated, as the nurse near the door did her best to try and ignore the two of them. niamh didn't even think to give a shit who heard them right now.
