You got me curious now, what exactly is the relationship between Kara and Garth on you opinion?
Ooh, nice.
So, if they hang out more, I think Garth will grow on Kara in a sibling like sense. (Which secretly bugs Kal because Garth isn't her actual family). Kara is a naturally protective person and she considers herself very powerful and therefore the most suitable to protect. She knows that Garth can handle his own battles and that Garth is an excellent counterpart but she still labeled him as someone that needs to be protected.
Garth is the sort of guy who idolizes all his friends, even for the silliest of things. He's in a constant state of fangirl, like
-say what? Hal is the best quarterback at school?
-say what? Babs and Karen are super smart?
All if that, smaller things than that, impress him.
So of course he looks up to his alien counterpart. And even though he knows that Supergirl is not in the least needing of protection he still wants to try. And he likes that Kara doesn't underestimate him so he works hard to not risk disappointing her.
So they are not quite friends, more like siblings.
Both extremely powerful.
