Hi! Was rereading MWBY (as one does) and was reading the scene where Louis first goes back to Marlowes and sees Niall for the first time. And I was thinking about how Louis was so devastated right away after the breakup and for a long time. And was wondering when did Harry’s come? Was it right away but he held it in? Or really not until everything else went to shit like he mentioned later?
And then I was thinking how it’s kind of surprising Harry and Niall stayed so close when Harry became such an asshole towards the end. I was wondering if they ever drifted or if maybe Louis was a little bit of an unreliable narrator at the end about Harry because he was in such a bad place himself? I’ve never thought that before but it just occurred to me.
Anyway obsessed with this story. It’s one of my favorites of all time. Can’t wait for your next one to be finished 💖
Hiiiiiii! I’ve been thinking about this all day, so here you go!
As for Harry, he says in Chapter 12 that at first he was like “I’m better off” because that’s where his head was at the time. HOWEVER, the show opened three days after Louis left him. (They break up on Thursday night/wee hours of Friday morning and the show was opening Sunday) Everything for Harry falls apart after that, from the reviews to getting his contract dropped to Xander hitting on him and Harry realizing Louis was right about everything. So things went to shit for him quickly. But As Harry says in chapter 12, Louis was long gone by the time he realized and Nick was a steel trap about his whereabouts. (A good friend he is!!)
I also think Harry channeled his grief about the relationship into anger for a bit and then he also had to deal with the immediacy of his situation. (He could no longer afford their apartment on his own, he had to find some source of income, etc etc.) As someone who lives in New York, I always think it’s not a place you can wallow because you WILL get swallowed up. So I think Harry focused a lot on putting one foot in front of the other.
As for his friendship with Niall, I think Niall probably called him on his shit much like he did in the post game night chapter and then they were all good. Niall doesn’t hold grudges. And I always believed Harry moved back in with Niall for a time as he got back on his feet.
But also Louis can be seen as an unreliable narrator too! It’s why the POV switches were important, to get to see both sides!
