British Underwater Photographer of the Year 2017 - Nick Blake
#356 #District 9
British underwater photographer of the year – winner.
Out of the Blue by Nick Blake (UK).
Location: Yukatán peninsula, Kukulkan
Kukulkan, one of the spectacular cenotes on Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula, is noted for its otherworldy light as sunbeams penetrate the darkness of the cave. Blake captured this diver in the centre of one of the beams.

I've seen a lot of people getting upset about the Nick X Eden scene, accusing the writers for sexualising their relationship. But honestly I didn't pick up on that at all! To me, Nick gave off older brother vibes, an older brother who wants to protect his kid sister from throwing away her life! Nick is obviously uncomfortable with his lot, (who can blame him when his wife is 15!!!) But he cares for her, she's a kid. Her decision to runaway was foolish and impulsive and not thought through, (and let's be honest Isaac would have thrown her under the bus if it would save his own skin) but it was such a TEENAGER thing to do. Eden has been given me very Sansa Stark vibes all season, I wish the writers had given her a chance to see past the illusion. I can't help but admire how she didn't back down from what she believed in. Nick just wanted to protect her. R.I.P Eden :(
The winners of the 2017 Underwater Photographer of the Year are in, and I liked the winner of British Underwater Photographer of the Year, "Out of the Blue" by Nick Blake, a whole lot:
Kukulkan Cenote on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula forms part of the Chac Mool system and is noted for the spectacular light effects as the sun penetrates the darkness
